Position Summary:
Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care, to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in Rehabilitation Medicine, including:
The staff specialist will visit Griffith Base Hospital 0.2 FTE/week on a FIFO basis and continue to support this service at other times (within reasonable expectations). Services provided including consultation advice for patients referred for Rehabilitation care and one Rehabilitation Clinic per week.
The staff specialist will be the principal medical point of contact for Griffith Base Hospital patients under the Rehabilitation program and any medical officers, nursing team members or allied health involved with the patient’s care.
The Staff Specialist will provide Non-Admitted care services 0.2 FTE/week at the instruction of the Director of the department – this is to include the Prosthetic Service.
The staff specialist will be the Acting Director of the amputee and prosthetic service at SVHS. This is to include pre-amputation counselling, in-patient care and prescription of prosthetics as well as the medical lead for the monthly prosthetic clinic.
Assessing patients and developing goal oriented management plans, in conjunction with patients/carers and appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team, which specify type and intensity of therapeutic input and timed and measurable outcomes;
Improving outcomes, minimising overall lengths of stay and facilitating the provision of best possible clinical care.
Participate in teaching and research duties;
Participate in the on-call roster for the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Supervision of the Rehabilitation Medicine Registrars attached to the service;
Participation in peer review, and case review meetings, as well as all academic and teaching meeting within the Department of Rehabilitation;

Selection Criteria:
Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
Must hold a fellowship of the faculty of rehabilitation medicine and current registration with AHPRA
Hold a current unrestricted drivers licence
Understand the complexities and challenges of providing rural healthcare and be willing to undertake a FIFO role
Knowledge of, and relevant clinical experience and expertise in adult rehabilitation with an emphasis on trauma rehabilitation, amputee care, brain injury and orthopaedic care.
Demonstrate strategic thinking and leadership qualities, with experience in management, supervision and staff support of a team.
Expertise in the management of complex Rehabilitation clients with demonstrated use of evidence based practice in relation to clinical practice
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to lead and work within and lead a multi-disciplinary team
Experience and expertise in development of learning resources for rehabilitation clients.
