Program Lead - Environmental Health and Safety
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Program Lead will perform environmental and occupational health and safety consulting services for the New York Presbyterian Community. Under the direction of the Manager/Director for Environmental Health and Safety, the EHS Program Lead plays a dual role in providing technical assistance, program coordination and quality control for the Hospital’s Environmental Health and Safety Program, and the Hospitals Fire/Life Safety Program, in areas of training, operations, construction, and inspection. This position supports 20,000 staff with respect to environmental/ occupational health, fire and safety issues. Act as point of escalation for all Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety and Fire Safety related questions or concerns. Coordinates Hazardous/Universal Waste Programs by ensuring proper identification, storage, handling and disposal of all waste; ensures NewYork-Presbyterian is compliant with all regulations by conducting training, audits and risk assessments; prepares and submits regulatory reports, maintains all relevant records and waste manifests; continuously assesses the hospital’s waste generating operations in an effort to reduce waste volume; assists with spill clean-up and Emergency Response. Implements Laboratory Safety and Biological Safety Programs by conducting risk assessments, facility and waste stream audits, and safety training to ensure staff compliance to all regulations; implements Biological/Hazardous Material Shipping Program. Assists in development of training material for various training programs including Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Noise, Laboratory Safety/Chemical Hygiene Program, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, OSHA Safety Programs, and Fire/Life Safety. Provides training, guidance and advice on all health and safety related issues, to major administrative units including Facilities Operations, Environmental Services, Facilities Development and NYP Vendors. Attends project meetings relative to new/ongoing construction in assigned area. Works closely with project managers and project safety officers to ensure continued compliance with Life Safety, and health and safety regulations. Reviews life safety code related deficiencies and conducts Interim Life Safety Measure (ILSM) assessments including life safety features that may be compromised during construction/renovation projects. Responsible for oversight of various safety programs including Fire Safety, Above Ceiling Work Permits, Hot Work Permits, Interim Life Safety and Fire Watch.
