The Senior Director, Medical Performance and Outcomes (MPO) will support the MPO capability globally to drive the value of Oncology Medical Affairs. S/he will report to the Executive Director and is a key business partner for Oncology Medical Affairs. The Senior Director is responsible for developing performance metrics aligned to medical strategies and tactics to demonstrate the value of Medical initiatives across BMS and enable data-driven decision making. The objective of this capability is to deliver operational excellence, enable process improvement, and elevate the overall impact of the Medical therapeutic area (TA) strategies.

The Senior Director serves as a strategic advisor within the Oncology TA, bridging asset-level medical strategy and data to elevate impactful medical strategies and enable process improvement. As an expert in data analytics, the Senior Director will lead key initiatives that align with BMS commercialization goals. 

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Director, Medical Performance and Outcomes (MPO) is accountable for the following:

  • Oversee the measurement and evaluation of Oncology Medical activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and priorities

  • Implement a framework for measuring medical impact, including key business indicators (KBIs) for Oncology and the broader business

  • Ensure prioritization of key business indicators are tied to medical objectives including the measurement, tracking, and ongoing reporting of measures

  • Translate insights into actionable recommendations across broad stakeholder groups to deliver operational excellence, enable process improvement, and elevate the overall impact of the TA strategies

  • Ensure quality and timely insights delivery for field medical performance reviews; leverage TA/brand strategic knowledge and insights to guide recommendations and decision-making

  • Integrate country and local needs into global co-created measurement strategies and tactics

  • Maintain alignment with matrix stakeholders on accomplishments and trends across Oncology

  • Partner closely with BI&A, Medical Directors across TAs, publications, and field medical stakeholders to support strategic goals and delivery of impactful recommendations

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree required; Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD, MBA)

  • 10+ years of experience working within the pharmaceutical industry, both US and ex-US experience strongly preferred

  • 5+ years of experience working within Oncology preferred

  • 5+ years of demonstrated management experience mandatory; life sciences management consulting experience preferred

  • Proven ability to identify and implement impact measures, organize and analyze data, and interpret and synthesize complex reports to derive key outcomes and develop consumable content for diverse audiences 

  • Exceptional business acumen and ability to think strategically, impact and influence senior executives to drive optimal business results

  • Expert data storytelling, communication, and presentation skills to effectively communicate complex ideas, advise senior leadership and ensure medical impact

  • Ability to prioritize business needs and be decisive in addressing business objectives

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with critical internal stakeholders to understand and meet TA franchise business needs

  • Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and develop a function with a focus on quick deliverables

  • Experience collaborating across a matrix, multiple markets, and global geographies

  • Demonstrated ability to manage timelines and quality of work using strong organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills in a cross-functional team

  • Strong enterprise mindset and ability to navigate a complicated matrix environment
