Smith-Blair, a Xylem Brand, seeks to hire a Tapping Sleeve Assembler responsible for assembling all of Smith-Blair’s tapping sleeve products in an efficient and effective manner in order to meet customer demand.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Must be a team player that exhibits excellent communication/interpersonal skills; motivated to work in a highly participative environment and understand and believe in the Lean Manufacturing Principles (5’s, single piece flow, KanBan, etc.).
  • Must be able to manually assemble fabricated or cast tapping sleeves and related tapping sleeve components/products.
  • May receive gaskets and clamps and manually stick gasket to clamp in proper location.
  • Must be proficient at operations requiring continual eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to form gaskets properly using mechanical or hydraulic press.
  • Must be able to cut gaskets (manual or shear) to proper length.
  • Must be able to bond gaskets using proper glue and/or heated bonder.
  • Must be capable of using computer to clock shop orders. 
  • Will be required to report material shortages to supervisors.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety standards.
  • Must maintain quality and quantity standards.
  • Keeps work area cleaned, orderly, and maintains proper care of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • Manufacturing/production experience desired but not required.
  • Forklift operation experience desired but not required.

  • Moderate lifting (11-50 lbs.), moderate lifting/pushing (11-50 lbs.)
  • Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move/walk throughout the facility
  • Regularly required to listen, talk to, and see co-workers and managers on a daily basis

Work Environment:

  • Large industrial facility
  • Manufacturing/production work areas and equipment related to: product assembly and assembly lines, metal forming and metal fabrication, welding/grinding, product finishing/painting, product transport/material handling, etc.
  • Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours
  • Overtime is not standard but can be frequent based on seasonal workload
