About School of Social Sciences (SSS)

SSS has nearly 100 faculty members and more than 1,700 undergraduates who major in the four degree programmes the School offers: Economics, Psychology, Public Policy and Global Affairs, and Sociology. Students also have the opportunities of choosing double majors such as Economics and Psychology, Economics and Public Policy & Global Affairs, and Economics and Engineering, etc.

There are more than 180 graduate students in our PhD and MA programmes (by research), and MSc programmes in Applied Economics and Gerontology. The School’s holistic and rigorous education aims to prepare our students with analytical and critical capacities that can be applied in the classroom and future careers. Students will be able to further expand their learning horizons through overseas exchanges and internship experiences in Singapore.

Apart from being deeply engaged in their disciplinary pursuits, our faculty members are also at the forefront of cutting-edge research between the social sciences and other disciplines. The School has identified Global Asia, Environment and Sustainability, Science and Society as the strategic areas of interdisciplinary research and international collaborations.

Key Job Purpose

Reporting to the lead (School of Social Sciences (SSS) Undergraduate Education (UG) Office), this incumbent will be one of the key members to support all areas of administration pertaining to the UG office matters of SSS, with the objective to ensure a smooth operation, timely and high- quality programme delivery to students.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Program coordinators and Program managers to support programme related matters but not limited to:

1. Academic and Curriculum

  • Manage the course registration related matters.

  • Manage the change of program applications and credit transfers.

  • Assist the Subject Head or faculty on the submission of Academic proposals (for new courses/programme, change in assessment components, change in pre-requisite and various curriculum changes).

  • Project no. of courses/places to be offered and plan the teaching assignment.

  • Work closely with the different stakeholders.

2. Graduation Project (GP)

  • Plan the timeline for the GP pre-registration, registration and submission.

  • Work with the GP coordinator on the supervisor allocation.

  • Assist to consolidate the marks given by the examiners and submit to the GP coordinator for review.

3. Student Counseling

  • Work closely with the student care manager to coach/facilitate students who face academic issues.

  • Counsel/advise students on their academic progressions.

4. Part time teaching staff

  • Work closely with the Subject Head and Undergraduate Coordinator to determine the need for part-time teaching staff, considering the enrolment trends, etc.

Requirements:

  • Recognized bachelor degree in any discipline. Higher learning institutional work experience will be advantageous. 

  • Strong administrative skills particularly meticulous with details to keep track of progress status / completion within set timelines.

  • Customer service oriented as in possessing a positive attitude to approach each situation with a solution.

  • Open minded team player who readily communicates and objectively keeps the team goals in view.

  • Good communications skills in both written and spoken to handle diverse levels of stakeholders.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications is key. Prior experience in working with large data management system will have an advantage.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
