Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Profess will perform contract work at the Arkansas State Hospital, a 222-bed free-standing psychiatric hospital located near UAMS. The Arkansas State Hospital positions are primarily clinical with a focus on the treatment of persons with forensic issues. Opportunities for research and teaching/mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows are available.


Qualifications:

  • M.D. or equivalent degree required.

  • ABPN-certified or eligible for certification in Psychiatry with the expectation of becoming certified as per the UAMS bylaws. 

  • Eligibility for and subsequent success in obtaining an unrestricted Arkansas medical license, malpractice insurance, and credentialing by central Arkansas teaching hospitals are required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Successful candidates will be excellent clinicians as well as outstanding teachers or researchers.

  • Able to work well collaboratively.

  • Be part of a team that is accomplishing more than any individual can accomplish.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows as needs are identified.

  • Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Providing excellent clinical care including evidence-based psychiatric diagnostic assessment and treatment.

  • Providing court reports and testimony for forensic and civil cases.

  • Completing medical records according to professional standards and in a timely manner using the Arkansas State Hospital EMR system.

  • Additional service to the Arkansas State Hospital, College of Medicine, University and profession are expected as needs are identified.
