Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes to monitor a patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform, and monitor EEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists, or other doctors. As a Non-registered EEG Technician at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, you will be provided with ample opportunities to grow & expand your career. Within this position, you will receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring. Non-registered technicians should expect to be in this role for one year with the expectation that they will become fully registered as an EEG Technologist.

A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 8:00AM – 4:30PM, with on-call requirements.  

Martin North will be the primary work location, but floating to Martin South and Tradition Hospitals will be required, as needed. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations. 

• Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts and take appropriate steps to eliminate them. 

• Monitor on the same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc. 

• Observe patient with video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly and check focus, lighting and microphone. 

• Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated. 

• Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event button and care of videos. 

• Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinical record and obtain additional information. 

• Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Associate’s Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience  

• One year of experience as a non-registered EEG Technician 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
