SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for the evaluation of pedigree candidates for meat yield and other traits that are developed using CT technology.  This position will work with the Cobb R&D team and the CT supplier to develop new traits related to carcass yield and health traits.  This position will be responsible for monitoring supplies used in the processes involved, cleaning and maintenance of computers and other equipment, attending mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, and following all protocols for the safe use of the equipment.  For success, the technician should be compassionate towards the birds in their handling throughout an efficient evaluation process. This position will also be responsible for managing birds within the CT facility, including feeding, loading out, keeping the area clean and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:   Requires knowledge of high school subject matter such as mathematics, grammar, office equipment and business practices.  Knowledge is normally acquired by four years of high school, a vocational school or equivalent.  Previous bird management/handling experience is preferred.

Accountability/Role:  1+ years of experience

Computer Skills:  Requires basic computer skills.

Communication Skills:  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.  Attention to detail and willingness to learn are a must. 

Biosecurity:  The jobsite is a biosecurity environment which requires showering before entering the facility and could require multiple showers during the workday. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species, chickens, ducks and birds. The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times; must be willing to follow the guidelines in the R&D Farm Biosecurity Standards.

Specialized Skills:  Work activities are variable and require judgment to complete tasks such as setting priorities, evaluating results and coordinating with others.  This position will require some problem solving skills.

Personal Protective Equipment:  Gloves, goggles, aprons, cut gloves, etc. will be provided.  Safe and responsible handling of sharp instruments like knives and scissors according to safety training is required.

Physical Requirements: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear. The team member must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Physical Environment:  The team member may be required to work on wet slippery surfaces and also in dusty and dry, or wet and cold environments.
