Akron General’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - Respiratory Therapy department is a new startup department that is looking for a Supervisor for Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) .

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Care, the Supervisor, Respiratory Care, is responsible for directing activities of Respiratory Care staff in a manner that ensures quality patient care.

                         

Job Details

  • Supervises the work activities of the Respiratory Care Department to include the technicians and technologists. Participates in the interview process of new employees. Responsible for orientation of staff. Evaluates performance and provides feedback. Makes personnel action recommendations (e.g. promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
  • Makes scheduled for all shifts in a timely manner to achieve the departments staffing goals. Responsible for disciplinary action concerning all performance measures including payroll, time and attendance.
  • Coordinates assignments, evaluates treatment load, schedules employees and handles all employee related schedule requests and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Functions as a clinical resource person in all aspects of Respiratory Care when staffing and treatment loads dictate.
  • Serves as a resource to Health Care Team. Provides assessment and recommends therapy. Evaluates patient performance and compliance.
  • Confers with medical director, attending physicians, residents and nursing staff, regarding goals and management of critical care patients.
  • Coordinates activities between Respiratory Care Department staff, critical care staff, physicians and nursing staff to implement and maximize effectiveness of therapy.
  • Communicates with other supervisors and department directors concerning operation of daily department duties. Communicates changes in current therapy or procedural changes.
  • Assists in implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Works with Respiratory Care Manager to provide all necessary staff education and recertification in BLS, ACLS and NRP.
  • Maintains and orders equipment and other supplies necessary for the work of the department. Evaluates new products and equipment for purchase for daily use or items for purchase as capital equipment.
  • Works with Respiratory Care Manager to maintain quality assurance respiratory care reports.
  • Assists in the operation of the general office area
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy Technology or equivalent experience.


Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice respiratory care in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Board of Respiratory Care. Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.


Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  • Ability to take leadership role and work with Education Coordinator to facilitate staff training. Strong leadership, communication and organization skills.


Work Experience:

  • Two years critical care experience with the ability to evaluate critically ill patients and assist the physician as necessary. Prefer neonatal experience with the ability to evaluate and assist in patient management. Management experience to include the planning and implementation of department budget desired but not required. Experience in counseling and assisting employees. Ability to develop educational programs germane to respiratory care. Implement the educational programs to the Medical Center staff and evaluate their effectiveness.
