Working Conditions:

  • Ensure crew is arriving on time, ready and fit for duty at the start of each shift
  • Host a morning meeting with crew at start of shift to delegate work for the day
  • Review any job related issues or safety concerns
  • Ensure workers have proper material and tools to complete daily tasks
  • Train apprentices in job duties
  • Check to ensure subassembly counts are correct and items meet a visual quality inspection and report any discrepancies to the fabrication area.
  • Establish methods with workers to meet work schedule deadlines
  • Ensure workers are wearing proper PPE and working in a safe manner
  • Ensure quality of work is maintained to a high standard
  • Resolve any work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality of work
  • Ensure workers adhere to company rules, policies and procedures
  • Ensure workers are following scheduled break times
  • Escalate disciplinary action required as per company policies and procedures
  • Understand sequence of operation
  • Become familiar with equipment being gathered and verify where and how components are delivered.
  • Co-ordinate daily tasks with other trade supervisors to ensure clear lines of communication
  • Manage inventory of material and consumables to prevent sudden shortages which can affect work schedule and productivity
  • Completing required paperwork and maintaining accurate record keeping
  • Set goals and manage time efficiently
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills, team building skills and the ability to supervise and motivate effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires shop work.  When working in the shop, one must exercise caution as this environment presents many naturally-occurring and potentially worker-produced hazards including small or large projectiles, contamination with toxic gasses/liquids, impalement, crushing, electrocution, explosion, immolation, decapitation and asphyxiation.   Safety policies (i.e. respiratory protection) must be adhered to at all times while visiting, touring and/or working in the shop.  Appropriate personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and others) must be worn at all times where required. 

It is very important that the incumbent of this position is able to work and communicate with prudence, while effectively managing time, completing tasks, and working safely.

    • Critical eye for identifying defects.
    • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various assembly processes.

    • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
    • Must be able to carry and move equipment and/or supplies in excess of 40 pounds.
    • Must be able to read/write in English
