The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Compliance Co-op/Intern for the Winter and/or Summer (January to April or August 2025) to support the Legal Affairs team. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Compliance team consists of a Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, 2 Directors, a Manager, 6 Analysts and an Administrative Assistant. Together we support and manage the Compliance program at BCI. You will also get the opportunity to work with other groups, as required, within the organization such as the Public Market, Private Market, Technology, and Legal.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Work under the supervision of different Compliance personnel to assist with various projects 

  • Conduct regular simple investment pooled fund monitoring tasks 

  • Conduct personal trading reconciliations and conflict of interest screening 

  • Assist with documenting current and new compliance monitoring procedures  

  • Research, ad-hoc projects and complete tasks as assigned by the team 

  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the Compliance program using existing technology solutions and provide further enhancements as appropriate 

Required Skills

  • A dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn 

  • A basic knowledge of business and investments 

  • Has an interest in investment management 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing 

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail  • Strong research skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities 

  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 products with emphasis in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook 

  • Familiarity with Bloomberg would be an asset

  • Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
