Operational Risk Management (ORM) is seeking to hire an Operational Risk Manager in Tampa, FL  focusing on the commodities business. The ideal candidate will possess a robust risk and controls mindset along with extensive experience in physical commodities trading and logistics. This role is critical in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks to ensure the robustness and resilience of our commodities operations.

You will work within ORM’s Markets Coverage Team. The Operational Risk Sr Officer will provide hands-on support to Business Units, ensuring that key operational risks are identified, managed, and monitored effectively.

You will have the opportunity to recommend and facilitate continuous improvement within processes and controls, promoting operational risk awareness and contributing to a positive organizational culture. As a subject matter and industry expert, you will provide qualified advice & support to Business Partners on a broad range of risk matters, assess new product and business initiatives, investigate Operational Risk Events, test the effectiveness of controls, and promote good compliance with key policies & procedures. The ideal candidate must be able to evidence advanced communication and influencing behaviors.


Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Business Partners, establishing credibility by understanding the business, their needs, strategic priorities, and challenges.
  • Comfortable challenging within any of the 3 Lines of Defense, and at all levels of the organization, regarding the application of the risk management framework e.g., risk policies, technology & tools, governance processes etc.
  • Embrace a level of professional skepticism, naturally seeking to remain objective & validate answers provided before making key decisions.
  • Identification of remediation plans and future prevention strategies, adhering to, and promoting good compliance with, Issue and CAP policy
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of operational risks associated with commodities trading and logistics.
  •  Develop and implement advanced risk assessment methodologies and tools to evaluate potential risks.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of effective control measures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve risk control frameworks and risk registers.
  • Oversee the continuous monitoring of operational risks and control effectiveness.
  • Prepare and present regular risk reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Escalate significant risk issues and breaches to executive management.
  • Work closely with trading, logistics, compliance, and other relevant departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management.
  •  Provide strategic risk advisory and support to business units and senior leadership
  • Monitor metrics and key risk indicators, analyze, monitor emerging trends.
  • Assists management in achieving and maintaining strategic objectives, promotes efficiency, reduces the risk of loss, and helps ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and oversees the application of operational risk policies, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing losses from failed internal processes, inadequate controls, and emerging risks.

Key Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MBA, Master's) preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in risk management, with a significant focus on physical commodities trading and logistics.
  • In-depth knowledge of commodities markets, trading practices, and logistics operations.
  • Strong understanding of risk control frameworks, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Understanding of Operational Risk Management framework tools including Control Assessments, Scenario Analysis, Event Reviews etc.
  • Knows how the business works in context of the market – aware of current and future strategies, tactics, trends, policies, and practices
  • Robust understanding of the construction of an effective control environment.

$130,880.00 - $196,320.00
