This role is responsible for the management of personnel, operations, and physical environments that support hands-on clinical skills training across the veterinary curriculum. The position ensures that laboratories and assessments are fully staffed, equipped, compliant, and operationally ready.
This role collaborates closely with the Director of Clinical Skills to align day-to-day operations with educational goals, while independently managing staffing, workflow, resources, and facilities. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Education and Student Success and requires some instructional lab support regarding set-up, teaching, and assessment as needed depending on specific times of year and colleague schedules, but at least 50% of the successful candidate’s time will be reserved for managerial duties.
In addition to operational leadership, the individual contributes directly to laboratory setup and instruction alongside the Clinical Skills technician team.
The Clinical Skills program delivers core and elective hands-on training within the Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE 2.0®) curriculum. The program is committed to preparing students to be day-one-ready veterinarians, with all live animal procedures limited to those that are minimally invasive or medically necessary. The Manager joins a collaborative team of Instructional Lab Specialists and faculty leadership to support and continuously improve this innovative and high-impact educational program.
Key Responsibilities:
Typical duties include supervision of veterinary technician staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management; overseeing daily operations of the Clinical Skills Center and ensure readiness for instructional activities; assigning tasks to coordinate laboratory logistics, including equipment management, supply ordering, and on- and off-site live animal use; developing and implementing standard operating procedures and workflows; Managing inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships within established guidelines; Monitoring operational spending and provide input for budget planning; coordinate lab scheduling, space utilization, and support of clinical skills assessments (including OSCEs); contribute directly to laboratory set-up and instructional activities including teaching and assessment.
The Manager will foster a collaborative, collegial, accountable, and high-performing team culture; ensure the team maintains laboratory spaces to ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality; ensure compliance with institutional policies, animal use requirements, and accreditation standards; maintain documentation and support inspections and audits; serve as a liaison between faculty, staff, and program leadership to ensure continuity of educational program delivery and assessment.
Success in this role within the first 6 months: includes developing and implementing a comprehensive annual schedule that organizes staffing, supply ordering, and operational support across all four years of the curriculum.
