Why this role is important?

Specialty Health Care Nurse

As a Specialty Care Nurse and a member of the Shoppers Drug Mart Specialty Health Network (SHN) team, you will support our specialty drug services, patient compliance and retention programs for a variety of medical therapies. You will travel to various locations to provide these services - whether in patient homes, dedicated Shoppers Drug Mart stores or in Specialty Care Centres (SCC’s).  As a Specialty Care Nurse, you will be responsible for maintaining high professional standards working within the Nursing regulations identified by the Province, Health Canada and General Manufacturing Practices as outlined by the Specialty Health Network.

What You’ll Do:
- Provide patient centric services for injectable and infusion medical therapies
- Provide patient centric education for patient self-injection
- Ensure effective communication between all healthcare teams when dealing with a patient
- Ensure all nursing documentation is completed timely and accurately
- Demonstrate commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement by completing mandatory drug therapy training, adverse event training and review of new and annual Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Required Organizational  Procedures (ROP) as outlined by Specialty Health Network
- Oversee collection and reporting of adverse events, product complaints, and product replacements based on the Ministry of Health criteria to meet Health Canada’s Guidelines for each drug program
- Maintain patient and SHN business confidentiality at all times as per privacy legislation and related SOP’s
- Maintain high standards of professional practice by adhering to the ethics of the College of Nurses and stay abreast of the latest professional advances.
- Report to the Regional Nurse Manager or designate, any concerns related to patient or personal safety
- Participate in administrative meetings and continuous learning opportunities, as required

What You’ll Need:
- Current unrestricted professional license within the province of work
- Current  CPR certificate and yearly recertification
- Strong computer skills are required
- Excellent skills in assessment, communication, critical thinking and decision making
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Shoppers Drug Mart Specialty Health Network policies and procedures
- Commitment to the practice of quality nursing service delivery
- Knowledgeable of various communication methods to meet the needs of patients
- Excellent IV skills and Infusion therapy experience is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Previous clinical experience in community clinics and in-home environments is essential 
- Additionally, an ACLS certification or Oncology experience would be considered an asset
