The Red Hat OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a passionate Software Engineering Intern to join us in our Bangalore office in India. In this role, you will build the secure, automated backbone of modern cloud infrastructure. You will work at the intersection of distributed systems, cloud-native security, and infrastructure automation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the open-source projects and develop production-grade Kubernetes Operators in Go. What will you do
Design and develop Kubernetes Operators in Go to automate the deployment, scaling, and management of complex stateful and stateless applications.
Contribute directly to the open-source projects, enhancing application security in cloud-native environments.
Implement and extend Model Context Protocol (MCP) security patterns for secure data access.
Work with senior engineers to develop features for various customer use cases.
Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure the reliability and quality of your code.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation for the Operators and features developed.
Research emerging technologies in agentic AI, MCP security, and the Kubernetes/cloud-native security landscape; present findings and recommendations to the team for adoption and innovation.
What will you bring
Experience in development using Go, Java/Python is required.
A foundational understanding of distributed systems, networking, and security concepts.
Familiarity with tls certificate, secret and key management systems.
Proficiency with version control systems, especially Git.
Demonstrated problem solving, influence, conflict resolution, and resolving technical stalemates are preferred
A proven ability in problem-solving, exerting influence, resolving conflicts, and breaking technical stalemates is highly desirable.
Good written and verbal communication skills in English
The following are considered a plus:
Knowledge of containers and OpenShift or Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Knowledge of MCP server and Agentic AI
Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub.
Understanding of data structure algorithms and Object Oriented Programming paradigm.
Understanding of agile principles.
