Position Highlights:

  • Location: Evanston Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Resource, as needed
  • Hours: 11:00 pm to 7:30 am

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: N/A
  • Experience: No previous experience required
  • Skills:
    • Potential exposure to body fluids and other potentially infectious materials, chemicals and other hazardous conditions
    • Sitting, walking, standing, pushing pulling throughout the shift
    • Walking, bending, stooping, long periods of stationary standing, pushing, pulling, lifting.  Must be able to assist with occasional heavy lifting of 100+ pounds

What you will do:

  • Responds to the immediate needs of the patient by answering patient call lights promptly and courteously.
  • As directed, by RN, makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety, comfort, and meeting patients’ needs/requests              
  • Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN; use of Safe Patient Handling equipment                                                
  • Assist with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals
  • Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient’s linen as need, removes unnecessary equipment and linen
  • Assists patient with simple hygiene/comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care
  • As directed by the RN, transports patient to other departments or when patient being discharge
  • When directed by the RN, remains with the patient continuously for patient safety.
  • Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedure
  • Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques to avoid cross contamination
  • Cleans and disinfects unit specific equipment                            
  • Answers phones and/or cover/assist Unit Concierge as needed during the shift
  • "Runner" to other departments, when needed to obtain necessary items for patient care        
  • Providing general information
  • Receives and answers incoming calls related to general Covid questions
  • Schedules testing appointments
  • Screen patients pulse Ox to determine urgency
  • Gather patient information for registration to allow patients to return to their vehicles to wait
  • Direct traffic efficiently and safely through the drive through
  • Screen patients making sure that they are at the right location and have been cleared to be tested
  • Gather patient information from vehicles staged in the parking lot for the registrars to be able to complete their workflow
