The Specialist, Location Experience drives the growth and adoption of Service Corporation International’s (SCI) location-based programs, including Catered Receptions, Celebration of Life, and future initiatives. This role partners directly with Funeral Home leadership and associates to increase revenue, enhance the customer experience, and ensure seamless program execution. Specialists act as trusted consultants, providing training, vendor and program support, and ongoing field engagement to build confidence in presenting and executing our offerings to families. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

40% Program Growth & Revenue Support

  • Partners with Field associates to drive program participation and achieve revenue and margin goals across locations.
  • Develops and implements market-specific action plans to support growth.
  • Delivers training sessions, presentations, and workshops to strengthen associate confidence in presenting offerings to families.
  • Monitors KPIs (take rate, net revenue, margins, participation) and translates insights into actionable strategies.
  • Escalates obstacles that impact program execution and collaborates with leadership to resolve them quickly.

40% Field Engagement & Vendor Management             

  • Guides markets and locations in sourcing and onboarding special event providers, including restaurants, caterers, reception halls, and related partners.
  • Negotiates contracts with food and beverage providers; reviews vendor agreements for performance, compliance, and renewals in collaboration with Pricing, Legal, and Risk.
  • Evaluates vendor quality and adherence to SCI standards; recommends corrective actions or new sourcing when needed.
  • Provides best practice consulting for vendor tastings, menu development, and service delivery to ensure a consistent family experience.
  • Partners with the field to implement, refresh, and sustain programs like Catered Receptions and Celebration of Life.
  • Provides in-field training and coaching on celebratory offerings (e.g., Memory Tables, personalization models, event enhancements) to strengthen associate confidence.
  • Partners with funeral home teams to adapt programs to local needs while maintaining SCI’s standards for service excellence.
  • Serves as a trusted, field-facing resource for associates, building engagement and ensuring seamless delivery of all Location Experience programs.

20% Collaboration & Continuous Improvement   

  • Assists Senior Manager, Location Experience with special projects as needed. May assist Senior Specialist, Location Experience, as needed.
  • Collaborates across the Location Experience team to share learnings and strengthen overall program execution.
  • Collaborates with other departments to determine common goals to create work in line with company vision, standards and brands.
  • Benchmarks program success by analyzing KPIs and feedback, sharing insights with field leaders to inform continuous improvement.
  • Stays informed of all state-specific legal requirements and disclosures for catering materials.
  • Supports cross-functional initiatives and special projects that expand Location Experience offerings across North America.
  • With some travel required, must be able to self-manage time, initiate work, work independently, continuously update manager, and effectively utilize down time to accomplish business results. Schedule travel, meetings, and calls as appropriate to accomplish business results and meet customer needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Sales, Business, Marketing or a related discipline preferred.
  • Associate’s degree plus 3–5 years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Experience

  • Direct funeral home or cemetery experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in catering, hospitality, event management, or related customer-facing services.

WORK CONDITIONS

Work Environment

  • Work indoors during all seasons and weather conditions
  • Domestic travel up to 30%
  • Standard business dress; professional attire required when engaging with locations and families.

Work Postures

  • Sitting continuously for many hours per day, up to 6 hours per day

Physical Demands

  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, calculators, computers, phone usage and lifting & carrying luggage.
