Senior Manager Operational Risk Advisory, Commodities, Trade and Carbon

The chance to play a key Line 2 Advisory role to the Commodities, Trade and Carbon business, part of the Institutional Banking and Markets division. This role is critical in ensuring that the products and services offered by Commodities, Trade and Carbon meet the needs of our customers, expectations of our stakeholders and are delivered with operationally sound processes. Do work that matters 

As a key member of the Operational Risk Advisory team, reporting to the Head of Operational Risk Advisory (Commodities, Trade and Carbon), you will join a team that provides strategic Line 2 Operational Risk advice. You will partner with the IB&M business as well as other key line 2 functions across CBA, including Compliance, Credit, Market Risk and Financial Crime to identify operational risks, shape the Risk Management Framework and be a  valued adviser to the business.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Having an end-to-end understanding of the risk profile of the Commodities, Trade and Carbon business enabling you to provide informed 2nd line oversight and challenge of the effectiveness of the businesses’ operational risk management practices, including incident and issue management, risk and control self-assessments and Change management assessments.
• Advising the business as they develop new and re-imagined products incorporating E&S features.
• Advising the business as they implement rapid change under Agile ways of working, to ensure that any risks are appropriately identified and mitigated and any change is delivered safely.
• Identifying issues and trends across Commodities, Trade and Carbon and undertaking advisory/rapid reviews on areas of concern or where greater transparency is required.
• Providing insights into emerging risks, thematic reviews of internal events, key external learnings or changes in the inherent risk environment.
• Fostering a strong risk culture and partnering with key stakeholders across the Group to ensure that operational risks are being managed in line with risk appetite.
• Proactively seeking opportunities to simplify risk frameworks, policies and processes.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

• Strong knowledge of physical commodities products, including logistics and commodity derivatives
• Understanding of Front to Back processes for commodity products
• A curious mindset with ability to draw upon data analytics to extract insights.
• Strong team focus and desire to drive results
• Strong resilience and focus on delivering outcomes regardless of obstacles
• Experience in successfully communicating with and influencing your peers and management, as well as the ability to build rapport with stakeholders.
• Ability to succeed in fast paced, at times ambiguous and complex environments.
• Ability to provide strong independent challenge to a variety of stakeholders to ensure that our risk outcomes are met.
• A strong customer focus to ensure everything we do drives positive customer outcomes.

Preferred, but not mandatory:

• An understanding of Operational Risk, with prior risk and control experience.
• An understanding of Agile methodology
• An understanding of Trade Finance Products and operational processes.
