JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview:
Position is for a product engineer to provide an onsite engineering presence in the manufacturing plant in Clanton, AL. Responsible for leading specific engineering tasks and resolving technical issues as assigned.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site support to quickly identify and resolve product issues at the manufacturing plant and/or engage appropriate members of engineering team or Simultaneous Development Team (SDT).
- Participate in SDT meetings, product design reviews, as well as support plant in meetings with customers and suppliers to resolve assigned product issues.
- Evaluate impact of process or manufacturing changes on product performance and provide feedback to manufacturing and product engineering teams.
- Evaluate proposed engineering changes via execution of production trials and provide feedback.
- Provide input on PFMEA and support in DFAM issue resolution.
- Evaluate potential PPSC concerns and leverage appropriate engineering channels for risk assessment and documentation.
- Apply problem solving tools KT (Kepner-Tregoe), BEP, and 8D to assist in root causing issues.
- Support cost reduction initiatives.
- Support for transition of product between manufacturing plant locations.
- Support the plant for all issues related to track manufacturing and work with the product engineering and manufacturing teams in Plymouth and Matamoros for system level issue resolution.
Qualifications:
- Able to effectively communicate and interface between the plant, customer, suppliers, SDT and the management team.
- Experience in manufacturing process, quality systems, and product interactions and willingness to learn about mechanisms manufacturing and key criteria
- Strong root cause capability with 8D/A3 background including identification of potential safety concerns.
- Sound knowledge of Adient product development process, project experience, and change management systems to assist/coordinate with plant team
- Experience interfacing directly with manufacturing and quality teams or previous launch experience
- Act as the liaison between Plymouth product engineering and manufacturing plant engineering, facilitate communication, effective product development, and cost-effective launch.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations and Adient Plymouth, MI.
- Mechanical aptitude for hands-on problem-solving using tools such as KT, A3, FTA, 8D.
- Ability to use Adient-specific software (PLM, Teamcenter).
- Understanding of GD&T and ability to read drawings.
- Ability to conduct statistical analysis of data (performance and dimensional data) and interpret data.
- Experience with Catia V5 design & drawings.
Education Required
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience Required
6+ years in automotive engineering with previous product launch / quality or manufacturing experience on seat structures and mechanisms
