As a mammography technologist you are required to produce diagnostic mammographic images for interpretation through administration of ionizing radiation in accordance with ACR and MQSA guidelines. You will prepare, document activities related to radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. The position is held accountable for performing the correct mammographic exams and producing high quality diagnostic images, while maintaining proficiency and complying with Akumin’s policies and procedures. This role supports early detection of breast disease and provides an excellent patient experience. 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammography exams following established protocols.  Position patients accurately and operate mammography equipment safely.

  • Verify patient identity, review clinical history, and explain the procedure clearly.

  • Position patients accurately and operate mammography equipment safely. Ensure high-quality images for radiologist interpretation.

  • Maintain compliance with MQSA, ACR, and radiation safety standards. Assist with QC tasks, equipment checks, and documentation as required. Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patients, family and staff in compliance with HIPAA.

  • Maintain levels of quality that meet or exceed customer expectations through process improvement and a team-oriented approach.

  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow infection control practices

  • Demonstrate proficiency of Akumin’s EMR systems, Mammography Reporting Systems, as well as PACS and DICOM systems for image sharing and interpretation. Ensure images are sent timely, and proactively address any additional workflow requirements that could delay interpretation impacting turnaround time.

  • Train and orient new technologists on site and/or through a remote command center as needed. Complete annual and on-going education and site specific competencies/in-services as designated by leadership.

  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Position Requirements:

  • Certificate from College or Technical School

  • ARRT(M) and State License, if applicable.

  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).

  • Must have met initial requirements under MQSA standards.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Organizational and multi‐tasking skills.

  • Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.

Physical Requirements:

The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients if working on a mobile unit. The employee will be exposed to a strong magnetic field. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

More than 50% of the time:

  • Sit, stand, walk.

  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs.

  • See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients.

Less than 50% of the time:

  • Stoop, kneel or crawl.

  • Climb and balance.

  • Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).
