The opportunity:

We are currently hiring a General Manager of Reinsurance to influence and drive our reinsurance strategy for AIA Australia. You will do this by defining strategies which best support the needs of our clients today and in the future, managing negotiations with senior executive personnel at reinsurers and securing approval of all location based reinsurance transactions. Within this role you will work closely with our CEO and CFO and various members of AIAA Executive, the AIA Group, the AIAA Board and relevant leaders across our business.  You will also play a key role on the Finance and Actuarial leadership team.

You will support AIAA to meet their overall strategic, business and reinsurance objectives. This is a Sydney based opportunity, and the successful incumbent will demonstrate extensive experience working within the Reinsurance industry.

To do this successfully you will:

• Develop and present reinsurance strategies for AIA Australia, including alternative risk-sharing structures and strategic opportunities to act as a reinsurer
• Execute Board-approved reinsurance strategies and report progress regularly
• Partner with stakeholders for APRA submissions related to offshore reinsurers and capital relief
• Assess reinsurer strategic positioning and maintain comprehensive reinsurer relationships
• Manage regulatory changes, business escalations, and reinsurer conflicts
• Engage with internal teams to understand product requirements and source reinsurance capacity
• Conduct reinsurer due diligence, negotiate reinsurance terms, and manage reinsurance offers
• Lead and develop a team of reinsurance specialists, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
• Ensure compliance with reinsurance policies and guidelines and achieve agreed SLAs for reinsurance exercises

Successful applications will demonstrate:

• Extensive experience working across superannuation and life insurance, including both the group and retail insurance product offerings
• A working knowledge of the regulations governing life insurance, superannuation and retirement incomes
• Excellent knowledge of the local and offshore reinsurance markets, as well as established personal networks with reinsurers
• Strong knowledge of the Australian life insurance and reinsurance markets, including the external factors influencing transformation and driving regulatory change
• Creativity and an ability to think “outside of the box” to develop effective reinsurance solutions
• The ability to package information effectively for senior audiences
