About the team and the role:

The Tax data solutions team is responsible for delivering business insights and high impact analyses to the Tax function in eBay.  The team addresses strategic and operational questions facing the business including process automations, business sizing and impact measurement, and data science solutions. 

This role is data science intensive, and includes research, innovation, testing and implementing of machine learning applications in Tax Domain. The role also requires the candidate to have advanced analytical skills. Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will possess strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for achieving practical business impact. Skills in problem definition, rigorous analysis, and recommendation development will also be critical. Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative, and integrity.

What you will accomplish:

  • Build close partnership with business and product teams to Innovate, identify and explore new data science and analytics opportunities, driving measurable results that empower Business Units to track and drive initiatives
  • Boldly innovate by researching and deploying advanced machine learning algorithms, creating robust and efficient processes that deliver significant business value.
  • Identify, quantify, prioritize, test, launch and monitor improvements in business initiatives, marketing programs, website experience or policy changes.
  • Develop data algorithms and automation tools, implementing them as self-serve solutions to foster a culture of self-serve analytics across the organization.
  • Data visualization and Insight driven analytics
  • Build out fact base through deep and innovative analysis of eBay's large and rich dataset
  • Constantly monitor for efficiency, and identify opportunities to streamline processes, where needed
  • Capable to work independently while acting as part of a global tax team
  • Maintain a close and pro-active relationship with other business functions like Customer Services, Legal and Finance teams to ensure visibility across functions

What you will bring:

  • Intellectual curiosity, passion for problem-solving, and comfort with ambiguity
  • Proven track record in delivering comprehensive data science solutions, including problem definition, data collection, analysis, machine learning model development, and production deployment.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques and statistical methods.
  • Fluency in Python and SQL. Any other programming language is a plus
  • Ability to perform exploratory data analysis  
  • Experienced in handling big data (Hadoop, Teradata, etc.) and agile experience
  • Ability to translate commercial requirements into software solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Capable to work independently while also effectively collaborating as part of a global tax team.
