Job Profile Description
This role is responsible for continuing solution architecture support to ongoing major enhancements of Asia digital platform of Manulife
To be successful in this role, the candidate shall possess deep expertise in technical skills (knowledge depth and breadth on Web Technologies and Cloud Technologies), and non-technical skills (e.g. stakeholder management, communication with different stakeholder across different markets and business units).
Solution Architect Accountabilities (working with programs/projects)
- Create and maintain solution architecture related artifacts i.e., high level design, low-level design (in-sprint designs) based on functional and non-functional requirements and aligning the design delivery to agile methodology.
- Create and maintain non-functional requirement related to capacity requirements, user projections, transaction projection and volumes, performance requirements, security requirements, and operational requirement.
- Groom low-level design / in-sprint design together with Technical Lead and Development team within a squad.
- Create and/or review user stories including clearly articulating the acceptance criteria.
- Review and approve user stories per sprint, making sure that the user stories aligned to created architecture design, acceptance criteria, and non-functional requirements.
- Create and maintain architecture logs and architecture decision records.
- Review estimation provided by Technical Lead or Development team. There will be scenarios where estimation will be created by an architect.
- Work with Program/Project Managers and Business Analyst to identify the required solution to be delivered for MVP (Minimum Viable Product). This solution will be used as an input for defining the “Release Plan” prior to sprint development.
- Work with Enterprise Architects to define the target state architecture. This includes creation of Technical Solution Architecture document, presentation of Solution Architecture to Architecture Review Board and getting it approved per required phase (SDR1, SDR2, SDR3).
- Work with Infrastructure / Platform Architects to define the required infrastructure / platform architecture (using PaaS solution).
- Work with Data Architects to define the conceptual, logical, and physical data model including data integration.
- Work with Country Architects to define and maintain integration requirement with respective country IT systems.
- Work with Security team to define the end-to-end security requirement of the application.
- Work with Operations team to define and operationalize monitoring requirement.
Solution Architecture Capability Responsibilities (working with architecture community)
- Work with MITDC Solution architects in building architecture capability e.g. API Governance, Microservice Governance, Application Software Standardization, UI Governance.
- Participate in Community of Practice to share knowledge and experience related to projects and technologies.
- Contribute in building architecture repository for reference architectures, design patterns and proposing architecture standards relevant to application architecture.
Manulife Organization Responsibilities:
- Establishes and delivers digital applications/platforms via Manulife IT Delivery Center, Asia (MITDC).
- Maximizes the reuse of digital technologies, solutions & skills across Manulife Asia to achieve cost efficiencies utilizing existing organizational practices i.e., Agile delivery, DevSecOps. Create repeatable technical playbooks and collaborative IT process automation practices.
- Travels within Asia to meet multi-regional Digital delivery, support, leadership and project responsibilities. Note: Travel is in consideration of Covid-19 situation or in general safety consideration in guidance with company and country regulatory safety requirements.
Application Architecture Skills
- Web Technologies - Angular, Springboot, Java, Rest API, Mobile i.e. iOS/Android. Preferred technologies - Angular, API, Java, SpringBoot
- Cloud Technologies – Azure, AWS, GCP (or similar cloud technologies). Preferred technologies - Azure
- Data and Integration Technologies – SQL or NoSQL, Redis, Service Bus, API Gateway, Event Hub or similar technologies. Preferred technologies – Azure SQL, Azure Redis, Azure Service Bus, Azure APIM.
- Operational Support/Monitoring Technologies –Application Performance Management tools i.e., New Relic, Devo, or similar technologies, DevSecOps stack i.e., Jenkins, Artifactory, Git, SonarQube, WebInspect, Fortify or similar technologies Preferred technologies – New Relic, Devo, Jenkins, Artifactory, Git, SonarQube, WebInspect.
- Architecture Experience - Architecture deliverables such high level design, low level design using UML, designing application architecture i.e. microservices, API, sequence diagram, context diagram. Preferred experience - Designing API specifications, microservices, sequence diagram, component diagram, context diagram
- Application Portfolio Management (APM) – Experience in APM practice (architecture roadmap, application lifecycle, asset management, business capability mapping) and its associated tools (e.g. LeanIX). Preferred experience: LeanIX, CMDB
People Management and Leadership Skills
- Provides hands-on technical leadership to software development team (squads/tribes).
- Provide architecture direction to program/project stakeholders, support architecture decisions to unblock program/project risks/issues.
- Develop and foster relationships with Product Owners (regional and/or market/country level), Business Analyst, QAs, Technical Lead, and other Business Units (Technology Office, Data Office, Security Group, Production Support Team).
- Coach, mentor and software development teams in implementing architectures and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Solution Architecture
- 5+ years of broad Financial Services experience
- 12+ years of experience in project delivery & Software Development Life Cycle (SLDC) using agile delivery methodology.
- 12+ years’ experience with e-business, digital and partner integration programs
- Extensive experience dealing with third parties including management of an offshore ADM center
- Experience working with remote/geographically dispersed teams including extensive travel
- Experience with Insurance customer channels including: Direct, Affinity, Agents, Brokers, GI and Bancassurance
- Experience in Application development, design & integration
