The Northrop Grumman Accounting Services team is looking to hire a Principal Accountant (level 03).  The position reports directly to the Manager of Enterprise General Accounting in Irving, TX. This a hybrid role which includes being in the office and working virtually. The chosen candidate must report to one of our office locations at least two days per week in either Irving, TX, El Segundo, CA, or Bloomington, MN.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate month end, quarter, and year end accounting close requirements,
  • Prepare and review journal entries,
  • Prepares and validates month end financial statements and disclosures,
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to record transactions, prepare reports, and review and verify accuracy,
  • Responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures
  • Prepare account reconciliations as assigned in Blackline and resolve reconciling issues,
  • Provide audit support to sector business partners,
  • Respond to sector business partner ad hoc data requests, inquiries, and problem resolution,
  • Represents organization as the primary point of contact on projects.  Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.  May develop and deliver presentations,
  • Work effectively with geographically dispersed team and customer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Accountant (level 03): Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline with a minimum 6 years accounting or finance work experience,
  • Demonstrate understanding of accounting principles, practices, and standards,
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) experience,
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills,
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP systems, especially SAP S/4,
  • Proven ability to multi-task, produce quality results, and consistently meet deadlines,


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate ability to assess processes and support improvement, efficiency, and harmonize strategies,
  • Fundamental understanding of data analytics,
  • Holistic understanding of Balance Sheet account reconciliations,
  • Uses technical aptitude to solve problems.

Salary Range: $77,000.00 - $115,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
