The Weapon Systems (WS) Division within Defense Systems sector is seeking an innovative, self-starter leader who is enthusiastic about change, always looking for ways to get work done more efficiently and more effectively. This role will be in Linthicum, MD reporting directly to the Division Vice President & General Manager.

This role will be a member of the Division Leadership Team (DLT) and work directly with the VP/GM, the Division Leadership Team, and with members of the Sector Leadership Team and staff to organize and facilitate day-to-day operational aspects of the Division.  The Chief of Staff also organizes and oversees execution of staff/leadership meetings, periodic senior leader business reviews (such as Monthly Business Unit Reviews and Division Days), Town Halls, leadership forums, site visits, project reviews, customer visits and international trips. 

The candidate must possess strong leadership abilities, excellent communications skills, and effective problem-solving capabilities.  They must think ahead to anticipate potential challenges, ensuring they are addressed in advance or providing recommended options to leadership when necessary. 

Direct and Manage the Division Business Rhythm

  • Integrate day-to-day operational objectives to meet the division’s financial, non-financial goals and assigned Sector Operating Objectives (SOOs)

  • Support the development and execution of the division’s Annual Operating Plan and Long Range Strategic Plan (AOP/LRSP) to include the planning of resources to achieve the plans

  • Set division business rhythms and coordinate the development, review and periodic reporting of applicable division operating objectives, and non-financial metrics

  • Ensure deliverables required by sector level business rhythms are coordinated among the division staff and delivered timely

  • Anticipate and proactively manage the materials, data and presentation needs for upcoming meetings and events

  • Serve as a division representative and action owner for sector level operations councils and working groups

Strategic Objective Development and Execution

  • Identify division focus areas for process improvement/streamlining and development and execution of operational initiatives

Project Management

  • Drive execution of strategic initiatives and tasks initiated by the VP/GM by working with cross-functional teams and business leaders across the organization

  • Organize and implement employee engagement activities such as VP/GM Town Halls, Leader Site Visits, and Leadership Forums

  • Leads internal special projects as requested by the VP/GM

Strategic Communication

  • Develop key messages and talking points for VPGM to deliver to Sector/Corporate Leadership and to employees

  • Craft presentations that communicate the Division’s priorities, challenges, and highlights effectively for a variety of audiences and settings

  • Draft and disseminate Division Newsletter on a monthly basis

Serve as Trusted Advisor to VPGM & Division Leadership Team

  • Prepare division VP/GM for senior level internal meetings and customer engagements with relevant information/materials such as talking points and relevant background information

  • Act as a focal point for communication and collaboration among division functional leaders and operations

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to VP/GM and the division leadership team  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of work experience or MS with 8 years of work experience in project/program management or relevant business experience and a wide variety of project types 

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as project management, analytical, planning, and presentation skills 

  • Demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork skills 

  • Ability to travel domestically (25-50%)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain for Security Clearance (Secret)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or MBA degree in a technical, business or related field

  • PMP or similar certification

  • Strong understanding of Northrop Grumman culture and demonstrated success effectively working within company’s organization, processes, and procedures

  • Experience with the Defense Community customers

  • Experience with international programs, operations and businesses

  • Active Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $142,600.00 - $213,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
