Job Description

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our Actuarial Division as a Predictive Modeler Intern. The position requires the person to:

  • Create data files to be used in modeling software
  • Build and evaluate predictive models using modeling software
  • Present predictive model proposals for peer review and business approval
  • Create specifications for and coordinate implementation of predictive models
  • Occasionally perform ad-hoc reporting to answer specific inquiries from upper management

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Student must be working toward a bachelor’s in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data mining, machine learning, physics, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline, having at least two years of coursework completed. Master’s students are also considered if graduation is August 2025 or later.
  • An understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, especially clustering and classification techniques
  • High aptitude for programming languages
  • A desire to learn new things
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and innovation
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, or R is a plus
