Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for an Associate Packaging Engineer to join our Troy Hill Operations, Manufacturing, and Engineering Team of dedicated and diverse individuals located in Elkridge, MD.

You will report to our Engineering Team Manager while primarily supporting and receiving tasking from the Shipping Department. You will review contractual, material, legal, and transportation requirements to provide packaging guidance for various shipments.

This position is 100% On-Site.

What You’ll get to Do:

  • Determine packaging practices and material for various parts based on shipment requirements

  • Review of contracts, purchase orders, and sales orders and facilitation of revisions to packaging information when necessary

  • Writing, review, and revision of packaging instructions utilized by the shipping department

  • Work with contracts, quality, engineering, manufacturing, and program teams to maintain best practices

  • Audit packaging practices of the shipping team

  • Verify material and packaging methods being used meet military packaging requirements

  • Develop and distribute military packaging training

  • Work with senior packaging engineers at other facilities and adhere to a community of best practices

  • Assist senior packaging engineers with the design and testing of packaging materials

  • Assist with developing and utilization of tools to support packaging design and choice of containers used

  • Review labeling practices and ensure methods being used meet military standards

  • Identify special material properties such as HAZMAT, electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD), moisture sensitivity, fragility, etc.

  • Determine required transportation methods

  • Ensure that the Troy Hill facility is utilizing proper tools and material when transporting or storing material

  • Own and review packaging, storage, and transportation records

  • Review material and packaging costs as well as provide estimates for future shipments


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in a manufacturing and/or shipping environment; Associates degree with 2 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or shipping environment; 4 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or shipping environment may be considered in lieu of degree

  • Ability to write instructions based of complex requirements that can be understood by those without technical knowledge/experience

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, drawings, and contracts

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Level Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing and/or reviewing instructions or routings

  • Active U.S. Secret Level Security Clearance or higher

  • Understanding of MIL-STD-2073

  • Experience using CAD

  • Familiarity with DoD contracts and military shipments

  • Military packaging training

  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work with people with different skill sets

Salary Range: $62,600.00 - $93,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
