Position Summary

Position supports the clinical support service by performing pre-analytic duties prior to laboratory testing. Duties include customer support, sample accessioning, patient registration, insurance verification, and sample procurement. This position is located in a clinical lab setting with no direct patient contact. Any patient interaction occurs via telephone or email.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides customer support for clients, faculty and staff in a friendly and helpful manner while providing a positive, professional, courteous and empathetic understanding to all customers.
  • Exhibits high quality performance through accuracy, attention to detail and commitment in a timely manner.
  • Accepts and electronically receives laboratory specimens for all sections of the laboratory, including registering patients into medical record and laboratory information systems.
  • Oversees the procurement of materials from outside institutions in support of clinical testing performed by laboratories.
  • Prepares and sends materials to reference laboratories in support of clinical testing not provided internally.
  • Effectively troubleshoots errors and problems in order to ensure pre-analytic accuracy in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of insurance industry. Performs insurance verification for testing to ensure accurate and timely payment for services. Calls insurance companies for pre-certification when required.
  • Effectively prioritizes workload to ensure completion of duties within stated expectations.
  • Fulfills client requests as needed.
  • Assists with additional projects as needed.

Salary Range

$17.89 - $26.35 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
