GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

Generally includes responsibility for operating one or more pieces of production equipment. Perform a variety of food packaging duties in the production of Ham and/or by-product products for distribution, including (but not limited to) box labels.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

This is an hourly paid position, generally involving the operation of specified equipment in accordance with established standards and in accordance with machinery manufacturer specifications. Must be able to do weight verification checks every hour, and stack boxes when needed. Must be able to change out labels from the label machine. Authority of incumbents is limited to proper machine operation, as directed by production management, and includes authority (and responsibility) to ensure safe operation, full compliance with GMP’s and a quality product meeting all company standards.  Moderate to close supervision provided.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Arrives at work on or before scheduled start time daily to check area for proper housekeeping, equipment safeties and safeguards, proper tools and other equipment/supplies, and to ensure that applicable machinery is set-up and functioning properly. Communicates/coordinates with other employees to ensure uninterrupted flow of product. Perform weight verification checks of product every hour. Five cases for each individual product that is running across the scale. While doing this check you must be able to identify any discrepancies with product information such as- Code dates, Lot numbers, incorrect Product labels and Piece count. Must be able to identify leakers or open packages.  When required, must be able to lift boxes and transfer boxes from conveyor to pallets and/or boxes from pallets to conveyors. While lifting using proper lifting techniques. Must be able to refill/replace labels and ribbons correctly into the Morrison label machine as needed. Must be able to enter production information from schedule to computer of products that are running that day at the beginning of the day or the beginning of lot start. Verify that information entered is correct from the schedule given that day.  Must be able to communicate with supervisor and/or lead about any product change. May need to cover other lines that are running the box scales during a time of absence. Box scale operators maybe subject to covering all lines when directed by Supervision.  Collect PIC (Product Identification Code) labels each hour for any product that calls for PIC label. Verify PIC labels match product description and that you have the correct BOM printed. Wears uniform and personal protective equipment as required and/or provided by the company (e.g., hearing protection, gloves, hair/beard restraint, bump cap, respiratory protection, goggles, etc.); shuts off machinery before clearing jams, ensures equipment lockout procedures is used prior to doing any cleaning or adjustment/repair which requires safety guards to be removed or which may expose employees to injury through inadvertent movement of machine parts.  Wears uniform and personal protective equipment as required and/or provided by the company (e.g., hearing protection, gloves, hair/beard restraint, hard hat, respiratory protection, goggles, etc.); shuts off machinery before clearing jams, ensures equipment lockout procedures is used prior to doing any cleaning or adjustment/repair which requires safety guards to be removed or which may expose employees to injury through inadvertent movement of machine parts. Ability to exert maximum force to lift, push, pull, roll or carry objects up to 60 pounds.  Ability to exert maximum force to lift, bend, reach, push, pull, roll or carry objects up to 60 pounds. Capable of working at a moving loading station. Read schedule follow product changes to ensure the proper pallet stack per Customer Specification Communicate all information regarding mechanical issues to Supervisor and maintenance. Associate will be continuously exposed to temperatures ranging from 20 to 40 Fahrenheit degrees. Keeps equipment and area clean during production run; is alert to slip – trip – fall hazards in area, takes any required action to eliminate/minimize the potential for accidents. Communicates regularly with supervision regarding problems and suggestions, reports unsafe conditions immediately. Assists in other phases of production as directed by supervision. Maintain good personal hygiene. Follow all Safety and Food Safety policies/procedures. Follow instructions from Line Lead and all members of Management.

 LOTO Training, FSQA Weight Verification Training, Label Training (FSQA),

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must have sufficient visual acuity to set-up machinery and to monitor machine operation and product flow; must have manual dexterity to move safely in an area of automated equipment; must have manual dexterity to accommodate machine adjustments.
