Job Description

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager the Carpenter will perform maintenance on any equipment or facilities in which their skills support in a compliant quality manner. Painters will perform maintenance activities crossing between job groups. Carpenters ate part of the General I technician work group and will primarily share work assignments within their job grouping with no inherent or "system imposed" limits Based on business needs General Technicians will perform maintenance activities including crossing between job groupings where skills are common Work assignments, buildings, and equipment are not exclusive to any craft, job grouping, or employee. Position may include some responsibility for maintaining significant business systems (e g. Maximo data, planning, procurement, and scheduling) including the authority to assign, coordinate, and maintain work for others.
EQUIPMENT:
General power-driven wood working machinery, such as joiner, planner, circular saw, band saw, jig saw, drill press, radial saw, table saw, shaper and other miscellaneous equipment and small hand tools common to carpentry work.
DUTIES:
Installs exterior and interior trim, mouldings, baseboards, doors, door frames and paneling; lays floor, builds concrete forms, wooden scaffolds and performs miscellaneous functions requiring the cutting, shaping and fastening together of wood or other materials.
Erects wooden and metal stud building frames, partitions, roofs.
Works at bench operating circular and radial saws, planes, shapers, powder activated tools and other mechanical wood working tools.
Installs all types of laminate tops on work benches and tables.
Lays and repairs resilient tile type floors.
Minor repairn to roofs
Reglazes windows, doors, skylights and partitions.
Performs miscellaneous utility wood cabinet work and millwork.
Makes, assembles and repairs wood equipment for production and maintenance use such as screens, boxes, steps, guides, paddles, etc.
Relocates, assembles and/or disassembles prefabricated metal partitions, knocked-down metal and wood furniture, such as Hayworth/Steelcase/Knoli.
Makes repairs to concrete work as required, including walls, ceilings, floors, steps, walkways and roadways.
Makes up locksets, cuts keys and installs all types of door hardware (commercial-type-hardware).
Maintains records/inventory.
Attend and actively participates in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, kaizen events, or any other operations, lean six-sigma, quality, safety or environmental training/initiatives as required.
Prepares and assists technicians, supervisors and planners in preparing labor and material estimates.
Assists supervision with the assigning, scheduling and prioritization of work order requests using maintenance management systems
Makes recommendations and prepares orders for spare parts, additional stock room items, tools, etc.
Consults with Supervision and other mechanics on problem resolution/troubleshooting
Keeps Supervision informed of problem issues
EDUCATION:
NECESSARY:
High School Diploma.
Graduation from a recognized carpenter trade school or completion of a formal carpenter apprentice program.
EXPERIENCE:
NECESSARY:
1 - 3 years of recent full-time experience as a journeyman carpenter in lieu of completion of a formal apprentice program, or
The completion of 4 years of on-the-job training as part of a formal carpenter apprentice program.
DESIRABLE:
Extensive experience in industrial maintenance and repair
Some experience in cabinet work.
