The opportunity

Reporting to the AVP, Treasury Finance, the Treasury Senior Specialist is an important member of the Shared Service team with a focus on supporting Treasury Finance’s reporting/disclosure requirements and capital/funding initiative. The incumbent will be responsible for timely and accurate reporting associated with Treasury’s inputs to the company’s internal and external requirements, the maintenance of various financial and funding models, and the reporting of capital activities. This is an opportunity for the incumbent to grow and develop within the role.

The position will require interaction and collaboration within the Treasury & Capital Management department, as well as with various other areas within the Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for the Letter of Credit (“LOC”) program, including the allocation of funding to various affiliates, processing of quarterly fees, administration of issuances/amendments, and LOC reporting
  • Ensure Manulife’s compliance to all LOC and debt covenants, culminating with the periodic external distribution of officer certificates
  • Prepare timely, accurate and complete information related to internal and external processes, including shares outstanding report, indicative spread report, payment compliance calendar, and MFC & peer ratings summaries
  • Support the monitoring of Treasury capital activities, including the resetting of preferred share rates, debt issuance cost reconciliation, share buyback and dividend reinvestment reporting, and leverage and coverage ratios
  • Coordinate the completion of all quarterly and annual rating agency surveys
  • Support Treasury Finance’s input into various company-wide activities, including SOX walkthroughs, Recovery Plan, internal/external audits, rating agency activities, and capital/funding requirements
  • Support the Shared Services team by embracing cross-training, collaboration and peer reviews, while also acting as a backup for various reports and processes (e.g. data validation, financial modeling, note disclosure updates) when other team members are unavailable
  • Provide support for the maintenance of effective controls over external reporting processes; assist in the coordination and facilitation of external and internal audit requests as required
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency of ongoing processes and increase the value of reports

What we are looking for

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or quantitative discipline
  • A professional accounting designation or working towards a designation would be considered an asset
  • Previous work experience in Treasury/Finance, and specific knowledge of capital market instruments would be considered an asset
  • Strong spreadsheet and financial modelling skills
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg and PowerPoint is preferred
  • Some programming/coding skills (e.g. VBA, SQL, SAS) would be considered an asset
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and sound judgement is paramount due to the publicly disclosed nature of some of the reporting requirements
  • Good understanding of the overall business environment to support meaningful analysis
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage internal relationships through collaboration (within the department and across the company)
  • Willingness to take on new projects/tasks while managing expectations in a dynamic, fast paced and demanding environment

Salary range is expected to be between

$70,350.00 CAD - $117,250.00 CAD
