Job Summary
Supervisor, Medical Laboratory will collaborate with laboratory staff and management to ensure all CLIA, DNV, and any other credentialing requirements are met. The supervisor will provide first level support to all laboratory staff, where assigned
Reports to: Assistant Director or Director, Medical Laboratory
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Overseeing the work of assigned lab personnel
• Perform complex test on patient samples using sophisticated equipment
• Support staff members with examining blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and cells
• Establish and maintain quality assurance programs to monitor and ensure the accuracy of test results
• Ensure scheduling and adequate lab coverage during call-outs, weekends, and holidays
• May be assigned to work in any area of the core laboratory including but not limited to: Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion, Toxicology, and Molecular Diagnostics.
• Responsible for evaluations and implementation of new laboratory instruments and tests
• Manage requisitions and orders
• Ensure laboratory procedures for reporting and documenting results, and the use of laboratory instrumentation is in compliant
• All other assigned duties related to the Medial Laboratory
Education and Experience
• AA/AS in approved science + 5 years of leadership experience
AND (1) Certification: MT(ASCP) MLS (ASCP) MLT(ASCP) or equivalent
OR Bachelor’s in approved science + 3 years of leadership experience in a high complexity testing environment AND (1) Certification: MT(ASCP) MLS (ASCP) MLT(ASCP) or equivalent
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• MT(ASCP) MLS(ASCP) MLT(ASCP) AMT, NCA or equivalent
Skills and Abilities
• Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered
• Ability to effectively build genuine relationship with lab staff and physicians alike
• Possess the versatility to work with various levels of employees and lead people from all backgrounds
• Demonstrated sense of urgency with high level of quality and accuracy
• Speak, read, and write English fluently
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments
Physical Capabilities
The Laboratory Supervisor can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required.
Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals
