Job Description Summary
A Senior Manager of Project Management provides direction and leadership to Project Managers to build a best in class and innovative global Project Management team. The senior manager must continually improve developmental processes and practices to increase rigor while evaluating alternative methods that allow for the proper program pace while containing cost. Involvement and review of program planning, technical solutions and risk mitigation is also expected. Strong people skills are required as interaction with Engineering Directors, Program Management, Business Area Managers and company leadership is expected.
Job Description
- Serve as the AAM global leader for Project Management products and processes.
- Provide oversight for a global team of Project Managers by: Recruiting and motivating a team of talented Project Managers. Working closely with team members by taking a hands-on approach to lead the execution of technology development into innovative products - Managing day-to-day performance of direct reports. Providing mentorship and constructive feedback to direct reports on completion of goals.
- Management and supervision of internal and external Project Management team in an international environment.
- Represent the Project Management Team to global customers and AAM customer account teams.
- Define robust and methodical engineering policies, practices and processes.
- Ensure software and system development, validation, and delivery are according to ISO26262 and ASPICE process guidelines.
- Provides technical leadership in engineering tool sets, usage, training, and efficiency of team.
- Work with IT and executive team to evaluate the best tools for AAM Project Management development to meet current and future needs.
- Drive continuous improvements into engineering processes and policies.
- Achieving new product development plan objectives, including meeting required technical specifications, meeting cost targets and delivering on schedule.
- Assure the accuracy, clarity, internal integrity, consistency, and timeliness of all technical information submitted.
- Provide regular updates/reports to senior management.
- Work closely with relevant functional areas to achieve overall product development success (operations/manufacturing and quality, marketing and sales, customer service, finance, and technical support).
- Work across multiple domains (software, hardware, systems, system test, manufacturing, and project management) to deliver an Electronic Control Unit or Inverter with Software.
- Support Programs from Program initiation to Production, meeting all internal and customer milestones in between.
- Identify risks, define mitigation strategies and execute them when needed.
- Define acceptance criteria for deliverables from remote development teams (including cross-divisional teams) and third-party suppliers.
- Plan and conduct software quality gate reviews.
- Regular reporting of project status to management team.
- Manage, track, and drive to resolution project software issues.
Required Skills and Education
- BS plus 10+ years or MS plus 7+ years of professional experience.
- BS in Engineering (Mechatronic, Mechanical, Electrical, Software or Computer Science).
- 3+ years of experience leading a Project Management team.
- Proficiency in project management, risk management and supplier management
- Proficiency in change management & version management
- Experience leading multiple project from development into production.
- 5+ years of experience in project management with OEM's.
- 10+ years of experience working in embedded systems development.
- Must possess a history of strong leadership and initiative
- Strong understanding of all aspects of embedded software and systems development.
- Practical knowledge of ASPICE.
- Experience with functional safety (ISO26262),
- Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with embedded C.
- Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment
- Proven track record of continuous improvement.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (root cause analysis experience)
- Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success
- Demonstrated ability to develop, nurture and grow strong customer relationships
- Proven communication, teamwork and organizational talents.
- Proven track record of on-time deliveries, project management and customer satisfaction.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of review techniques and methods.
- Knowledge in problem management and problem solving (8D).
- Technical knowledge of driveline system.
