Department Overview

The FSO (Field Service Organization) is responsible for supporting the upgrade, implementation and maintenance of highly technical mission critical communications systems at public safety customer locations throughout the West Region (T6/T7/T8).

Job tasks include but are not limited to: System Upgrades, Juniper Upgrades, Firewalls, Deployment, Optimization, and Repair of Infrastructure, Public Safety Loggers, Subscribers, Microwave, Computers, Servers and Network Equipment. Our department works closely with Public Safety Customers, System Managers, Engineers, Sales Team, Project Managers, System Technologists and Service Partners to accomplish the assigned tasks.

The Field Service Technician will cover the West Region - California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas (T6/T7/T8).


Job Description

  • Travel to customer systems and perform remote work as needed (50% - 75% of the time).

  • Perform SUA/Juniper upgrades with the UO (Upgrade Operations) team.

  • Work on Firewalls, Routers, Switches and complex Customer Systems.

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.

  • Identify and solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.

  • Stay familiar with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Team with the UO, Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to develop creative solutions to exceed customer expectations.

  • Demonstrate high level of systems expertise and have a minimum of 6 years of related experience with the following: Various network backhaul technologies (T1, PTP, VPN, MPLS, MW, etc.), Computer IP Networks and Configuration, Juniper/Fortinet/CSMS and MSI Astro and Console systems and how they operate

  • Deliver excellent skills in the use of various communications test equipment, which includes Ethernet Link Test Sets and T1 Test Sets.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills allowing them to build strong relationships with customers and their vendors, service partners, and other departments within Motorola Solutions

  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

  • Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies and troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)

  • Certifications through CompTIA Network +, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar, highly desirable

  • Previous knowledge and experience working with some or all of Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, Ceragon, etc.

  • Strong background in Networking, capable of performing maintenance of Server Hardware/OS and Software Infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve System/Application related issues

Additional Information:

  • This position covers the West Region (T6/T7/T8) and can be based out of any of the following states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. However, the Field Service Technician MUST live near an international airport.

  • The Field Service Technician will travel within the West Region 75% of the time while conducting local work as needed.

  • It will require strong people skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as, Motorola UO, Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Customer Service teams, and other 3rd party Vendors.

  • Must have a current, valid Driver’s License and no traffic violations

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by Government Customers

  • During the first year of employment, the Field Service Technician must obtain a Network+, Security+ and CET certification.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Military, Networking Equipment or IT
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s).
