RBS Strategy is a function reporting into Customer Engagement & Digital, working closely with the GE Retail Bank. Led by the Centre of Excellence Lead, Strategy & Transformation, we are responsible for developing and driving a coordinated strategic agenda across the Retail Bank while reinforcing the Group’s Purpose and Values.
The strategy & transformation team is composed of high calibre and passionate individuals from a range of backgrounds including management consulting, investment banking and banking product, and across a range of industries. Our core activities are achieved from engagement and collaboration with senior stakeholders across the breadth of both RBS and the Group’s business and support units.
These activities include:
Ensuring the strategic agenda is ambitious and transformative, and supported by the right planning and execution strategy.
Ensure all RBS functions and teams are aligned strategically and are operating cohesively towards it.
Analysis of the operating environment and identification of the potential medium to longer term issues and trends that are of strategic significance to the Retail Bank strategy.
Evaluation of the implications of environmental change, development of strategic options and recommendations to achieve the RBS vision and objectives over the medium to longer term.
Driving the planning and execution by facilitating the quarterly and annual strategy development processes with the Retail Leadership Team and group planning.
Driving a set of cadences and rhythms that ensure the pace and quality of execution exceeds expectations.
Reporting to the Centre of Excellence Lead, Strategy, Propositions, Transformation, this role is responsible for:
Contributing to, and often driving project efforts to drive high impact outcomes supported by quality research and insightful analysis.
Producing high quality discussion papers and visual communications.
Managing the drafting and maintenance of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with the support of the Customer Engagement & Digital Leadership Team.
Shaping, scoping and delivering quality solutions and recommendations for the Retail Bank Strategy.
Identifying investment and partnership opportunities for the Retail Bank that are aligned to the Group’s Strategy and Purpose.
Executing strategic partnerships, including both internal and external engagements.
Building on the team’s intellectual property and driving continuous improvement in the team’s activities.

Proactively reviews existing governance frameworks and has an expert understanding of their effectiveness and applicability.
Provides pragmatic recommendations on key and material observations of assessment on forums’ effectiveness.
An Expert in Strategy, Appetite, Framework and Policy
Strategy: Evaluates the impact of strategy changes on people, processes, systems and obligations for the business or support unit and Group. Guides the design of targeted operational risk and compliance processes and controls to support the business strategy.
Risk Appetite: Participates in the development of business risk appetite and risk limits / triggers. Actively engages with the wider business to ensure risk appetite is able to be applied to the business.
Framework and Policy: Significantly contributes to the development of policies, processes and procedures applicable to the business and recommendations.
Sound Persuading and Influencing
Actively engages others (e.g., presents facts, alternatives and credible recommendations) as part of a broader influence strategy.
Recognises who key stakeholders and decision-makers are and targets them specifically to ensure they clearly understand the benefits of proposed actions, bringing them along on the journey.
Anticipates areas where additional support or influence will be required, develops strategies and takes action to involve key stakeholders in the process when required.
