The Sr. (Lead) Analyst/Engineer will support the Capacity Market & Demand Response Operations Department mission to successfully manage the multi billion dollar annual PJM Capacity Market that is used to ensure the reliability of the PJM system. This is a dynamic and exciting area where the PJM resource mix and associated market rules continues to evolve based on competition, public policy and new technologies. The team manages all aspects of the capacity market, from resource specific accreditation to required performance, and actively interacts with our members to support their needs. The candidate will have the opportunity to help determine the future policy, processes and systems to support one of the largest and most successful capacity wholesale markets in the world. The candidate will typically spend a similar amount of time focused on: 1) projects to make existing systems and processes more effective or to update based on new business rules; 2) conduct the capacity market auctions and execute the daily capacity market operation's activities; and 3) directly support our members' questions and needs regarding the various business rules and associated systems. It is important the candidate can collaborate internally and externally to address issues in a proactive manner. Essential Functions:
Clear the capacity auctions – this will include analysis and verification of all inputs, implementation of the auction solution process and prepare reports regarding the auction outcome. Candidate will need to coordinate with several other departments and internally with senior management.
Evaluate Seller Offer for compliance with price mitigation rules. This will involve financial analysis of generator avoided cost and estimates for annual net revenue.
Work with members to model resources in the PJM Tool. Approve or assist members with bilateral and replacement transactions to modify future positions.
Provide exceptional customer service to the membership. Must be able to address specific customer issues in a clear, concise and professional manner through excellent communication.
Must be able to collaborate with others to determine creative solutions (process or system) that streamline the operation and reduce risk. Read, analyze and understand PJM Tariff and Manuals in order to convert market rules into robust operational processes.
Data analytics with summary reports or presentations using a variety of tools (Excel, SQL, SAS, other).
Develop and update training material (MS PowerPoint documents) and assist with training to members on the PJM Capacity market rules and associated operational procedures.
Characteristics & Qualifications: Required:
BS degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science
Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support
Preferred:
MBA degree
MS degree in Economics, Mathematics
At least 8 years of experience Experience with PJM markets.
Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
