Job Description Summary

               

Participate in an 11-week internship program built around your career goals and hands-on projects that impact the organization. As part of the Lamb Weston University Recruiting Internship Program, Interns work towards completing a Capstone project and are assigned a mentor who will guide and evaluate performance. Whether you are interested in Agricultural Science, Data Science, Finance, Supply Chain, IT, Manufacturing, Food Science, Marketing, or Engineering, our highly selective summer intern program has projects that will help you build the next stage in your career.


- 11-week paid internship, May – August (actual dates may vary)
- Gain real-world working experience through dynamic projects assigned by your mentor and assigned department

Job Description

The Food Science Intern specializing in Innovation & Product Development, will be a contributing member of a team that brings together leading-edge technical knowledge to spur development of new potato products and processes.

This intern will gain industry insight while assisting professionals in research and projects. The intern will be a resource to the Sr. Food Scientist in the execution of pilot plant tests and research experiments. They will receive pertinent training and mentoring during the internship and will be given progressively increasing responsibilities based on performance. The intern should be capable of working in a collaborative environment as demonstrated by sharing ideas, opinions, and expertise.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct laboratory and pilot plant experiments

  • Develop and execute research hypotheses to completion

  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and equipment

  • Operate and assemble pilot plant equipment

  • Prepare samples for laboratory analyses

  • Document and maintain accurate and complete records relevant to experiments and projects

  • Collect, organize, analyze, and summarize data

  • Maintain a current and accurate electronic laboratory notebook

  • Attend team meetings and discussions

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program related to Food Science.

  • Juniors, Seniors, or Master’s degree students preferred but also accepting recent grads

  • Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred

  • A basic understanding of science (biology, chemistry, or food technology/engineering) to apply skills to support bench top/lab testing under supervision of a professional

  • Ability to problem solve with limited guidance

  • Continuous improvement mindset and methodology

  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong computer competency with experience with MS suite of products desirable

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate’s work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable hourly estimate for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $22.00
