About This Opportunity 

In 2023, the UQ Medical School established eight geographically based Learning Communities, three of which are part of the Rural Clinical School. These Learning Communities bring together students, academics, clinical educators, and professional staff to foster an academic environment where students learn collaboratively and are supported in their growth as medical professionals throughout the MD program.

The Central Queensland and Wide Bay Learning Communities align with the Central Queensland and Wide Bay Regional Medical Pathways (CQ RMP and WB RMP). Starting in 2025, these pathways will offer all four years of the UQ MD Program within their respective regions, with the first two years based in Rockhampton for CQ RMP and in Bundaberg for WB RMP. In the final two years, MD students will participate in clinical placements throughout rural and regional communities in Central Queensland and Wide Bay.

The Darling Downs and South West Learning Community is another key area within the Rural Clinical School. From 2026, it will host all four years of the UQ MD program and serve as the foundation for the Darling Downs – South West Medical Pathways.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver teaching related to ethics and professional practice across the entire MD program, with a focus on the first and second years, while also contributing to various other teaching and learning activities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Teaching: Provide the teaching for the ethics and professional practice components of the MD program. Work closely with the relevant academic staff in the Academy for Medical Education to ensure a high quality teaching and learning experience for students in the area of ethics and professionalism.

  • Teaching Impact/Research: Maintain personal academic standing including the pursuit of research and scholarship. Foster and support a positive research culture within the RCU.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Effectively lead and develop student performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

  • Citizenship and Service: Consistently demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values. Contribute proactively and respectfully to the Medical Pathway, Rural Clinical School, Learning Community and Regional Clinical Unit.

About You 

  • Medical qualification and a non-GP Specialist or General Practice Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with AHPRA

  • Knowledge and experience in ethics and professional practice theory and/or clinical practice.

  • Recency of clinical practice as a medical practitioner in Australia will be highly regarded.

  • Evidence of a substantial contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional level

  • Demonstrated experience and capacity in the delivery of medical education materials relevant to small and/or large group settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a complex environment.

  • Demonstrated capacity to engage with and/or develop scholarly work in medical education.

  • High level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues and the relevant external partners.

  • A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living and working in a rural and/or regional area.

  • You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
