Who We Are: Enterprise Transformation Delivery

Engaged in the bank’s most critical & strategic initiatives, leveraging modern delivery approaches.

  • A results-oriented team of 30+ diverse professionals, we provide execution certainty through strong project delivery, business acumen, and change management capabilities.

  • We engage in strategic, enterprise level, high priority, cross-divisional initiatives by partnering with leaders to understand the problem, sharpen ownership and focus to deliver for the entire bank.

  • Differentiated by our ability to understand the details and complexities with an eye for alignment to enterprise priorities and outcomes, we synthesize, communicate, and collaborate across business lines, support functions, and senior leadership.

  • Our methodology incorporates solving the problem across people, process, technology, and data domains to drive transformational change.

The Opportunity:

We’re seeking a Senior Enterprise Program Manager to act as the central driver for our most strategic, enterprise‑wide initiatives. In this highly visible role, you’ll serve as an independent, enterprise-level program leader and advisor, ensuring major transformations adhere to governance standards, maintain momentum, and deliver the outcomes that matter - on time and within scope. You’ll orchestrate people, processes, and priorities across business lines and technology, providing execution certainty and transparent progress reporting to senior leadership. If you’ve led complex, multi‑year transformations in large enterprises this role is for you.

A Day in the Life:

  • Operate at the enterprise level - not within a single line of business - aligning stakeholders across functions and ensuring accountability to commitments.

  • Monitor progress across several high‑impact programs simultaneously; identify critical blockers early and drive risk, issue, and decision management across scope, schedule, budget, and resources.

  • Engage regularly with senior executives and enterprise leaders, guiding initiatives such as digital optimization (web/mobile), regulatory response programs, cloud/infrastructure modernization, major business transformations, and M&A integrations.

  • Lead and direct the work of matrixed teams - business-line project managers, analysts, and contract PM resources - without direct people management.

  • Produce crisp, executive-ready communications and artifacts that create transparency and drive decisions.

  • Champion continuous improvement, enterprise governance, and delivery best practices to keep complex work moving at pace.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead enterprise-scale transformations - from strategy and scoping through execution - delivering measurable business outcomes.

  • Establish and operate governance frameworks (cadence, stage gates, cross‑functional forums) that align initiatives to strategy and enforce accountability.

  • Stand up and maintain program controls: integrated plans, RAID logs, KPI/OKR measurement, dependency mapping, change control, and benefits tracking.

  • Provide clear line‑of‑sight for senior leadership: status, risks, decisions needed, trade‑offs, and portfolio impacts.

  • Drive organizational change management (OCM) alongside delivery - partnering with stakeholders on communications, adoption, training, and readiness.

  • Rescue and stabilize challenged programs by resetting scope, re‑baselining plans, reshaping teams, and securing decisions.

  • Coach and elevate project managers and analysts; cultivate a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

  • Break down silos by building strong relationships across product, technology, operations, risk, finance, and customer experience.

  • Ensure adherence to risk, compliance, and internal control standards; proactively prepare for internal/external audits and regulatory reviews.

  • Promote modern Transformation Delivery tools and methods (Agile/SAFe where appropriate) to accelerate delivery and decision‑making.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

  • The position serves in a lead capacity for less experienced personnel and in an indirect management role for delivery stakeholders.

  • Does not directly manage a team.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years’ related work experience.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • 7+ years leading complex, multi‑disciplinary enterprise transformations in large corporate environments (Fortune 500 or similar scale).

  • Proven track record turning around or rescuing struggling programs - resetting governance, plans, and stakeholder alignment to deliver.

  • Deep program management expertise: multi‑program portfolios, cross‑dependency management, executive communications, and benefits realization.

  • Ability to influence and negotiate across all levels - from executives to delivery teams - without formal authority.

  • Strong OCM, stakeholder management, and communication skills; exceptional clarity in executive storytelling and decision framing.

  • Hands‑on experience with MS Project, Jira, SharePoint, and the MS Office suite for planning, tracking, and reporting.

  • Comfort operating as an independent advisory/assurance function - objective, outcomes‑focused, and transparent.

  • Demonstrated coaching and development of others (without direct people leadership).

  • Working knowledge of Agile/SAFe alongside traditional program controls.

  • 5+ years program/portfolio experience on large‑scale transformations (e.g., digital modernization, servicing modernization, cloud migration, regulatory remediation, M&A integration).

  • Financial services or highly regulated industry experience.

  • MBA/MS or relevant certifications: PMP, SAFe/Agilist, ScrumMaster, CBAP (or equivalent).

  • Prior management consulting or comparable client‑service experience.

  • Experience spanning technology and non‑technology workstreams (process, policy, product, operations, CX).

Work Model & Location:

  • This is a hybrid role requiring four in-office days per week.

  • Eligible candidates must live within commuting distance to 345 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14203.

Anticipated Travel Requirements:

  • Employees in this position should be prepared to travel at least once per quarter within the M&T Bank east coast footprint.

  • Travel may occur more often than this and is based upon the needs of the business and projects assigned.
