In this fast-paced role, you will act as an expert in one or more project controls subject matter areas (scheduling, estimating and cost analysis) by providing project controls guidance and recommendations on complex progress and performance variance. Using an analytical and collaborative mindset you will provide timely, high quality, accurate cost, schedule, progress, and performance information management for project reporting throughout all phases of the project and turnaround lifecycle.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of Project Controls (or equivalent) related experience.
  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration.
  • Ability to apply and improve established standards, guidelines, systems, and processes. 
  • You are resourceful and versatile when it comes to solving problems and you have a strong attention to details.
  • Exercises independent judgment and can coach and influence other stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency with the full range of MS Office Suite applications, specifically in Excel and Power BI, data visualization programs, and Primavera.
  • Experience with an ERP system and other project planning systems (strong preference for SAP).

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Project Controls for projects with budgets between $500K and $50M.
  • Act as a resource person for the project engineering team, from project setup to project close-out while working with multi-disciplinary team of Suncor employees and partners (consulting firms, contractors)
  • Provide guidance and make recommendations to leaders with respect to work planning, cost control, schedule management, project control analytics, and risk management.
  • Lead reporting progress and performance in the context of real time reporting and decision-making, identify and solve problems
  • Meet the minimum standard cost practices and provide information with forecasts that directly influence TA and project decision-making
  • Updates and maintains resource loaded projects schedules for all phases of a project with increasing complexity.
  • Execute and validate project closeout activities including work order and purchase order closure, material returns, and fund deallocation
  • Coordinate continuous improvement in project controls processes, systems and procedures with increasing complexity.
  • Initiate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of project reports assuming responsibility for its overall accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Perform multi-step complex level Benchmarking Analytics, utilizing internal data, external databases, external studies and publications (see patterns, understand them, and demonstrate ability to draw conclusions which can support recommendations).

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia Refinery which is located at 1900 River Rd
  • This role in office based, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
