The Claims Legal team operates in a demanding and fast paced environment. As Senior Director, Claims Legal, Litigation and Investigations Division, you will be a pivotal member of our legal team. You will lead a team of lawyers who provide legal support for GEICO’s claim organization, including providing legal advice on insurance coverage and claims-handling issues, managing claims-related litigation against the Company, and other services for the purpose of mitigating the legal, financial, and reputational risks that may arise from the Company’s claim operations. You will report directly to the Vice President of Enterprise Litigation and Investigations.
Location:
This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD. Other locations being considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the claims legal team of lawyers with responsibility for management and oversight of claims related litigation, complex coverage issues, litigation against the company alleging extra-contractual liability, and complex institutional and electronic discovery matters.
Manage, mentor, develop and inspire a strong team of lawyers, including setting strategy and goals, providing development and leadership, and tracking success metrics.
Track performance in the division with key metrics/KPIs and periodically provide reports to the Vice President of Litigation.
Lead high-level transformational projects and change management.
Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to drive business results.
Lead efforts to identify and implement new solutions while optimizing existing solutions to streamline the operations in Claims Legal and improve legal intake process and workflows with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
Track and understand the external environment and advise business partners in the claims organization.
Build relationships with key internal partners to better understand the business transformation and prepare for, and execute, related communications initiatives.
Collaborate with underwriting and product areas to provide insights to improve the Company’s insurance products and minimize risks.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor from a recognized, accredited law school.
10+ years of experience specializing in technology contracts and agreements.
Experience with evaluating and managing reserve adequacy on claims related litigation.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work independently and lead by example.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with keen attention to detail.
Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving capabilities.
Strategic judgment to assess risks and make informed decisions.
Additional Qualifications (Desirable):
Experience in the insurance industry.
Prior experience managing a team of legal professionals.
