The Dietary Aide 1 has one of the following primary assignments but is expected to be able to perform all assignments on an as needed basis:
To prepare patient trays in accordance with dietary restrictions and menu choices;
To transport food trucks and store food supplies;
To maintain sanitation of the kitchen area by washing/storing wares, emptying trash and sweeping/mopping.

All Dietary Aide 1 are expected to handle food following Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines; maintain work area in accordance with all sanitation and safety guidelines; and provide excellent customer service when interacting with patients, visitors, co-workers and other VCUHS staff throughout the facility.

Experience REQUIRED:
None required

Experience PREFERRED:
One (1) year of previous food services or customer service work experience

Education/training REQUIRED:
Must possess reading and writing skills and comprehend and communicate in English

Education/training PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Independent action(s) required:

  • Read tray tickets and put listed items on tray.

  • Read documents (service reports, production sheets, patient menu lists-trayslip, menus), and set up food stations according to populations being served.

  • Set up, breakdown, sanitize and restock stations.

  • Portion foods using correct service ware and standards.

  • Record sanitizer concentrations, thermometer calibrations, and refrigeration and food temperatures on appropriate logs.

  • Identify correct carts to be transported to correct areas (patient care units, galleys, kitchen storage areas).

  • Operate elevator.

  • Handle and operate all equipment according to purpose intended, as trained during orientation and annually thereafter.

  • Use proper security procedures throughout all areas of the department and hospital.

  • Complete all logs required and as instructed.

  • Proper communication with all co-workers, internal and external to our department.

  • Proper check in and check out procedures followed.

  • Determine appropriate cleaning chemicals, Personal Protective Equipment and tools to use for sanitation.

  • Completion of all cleaning assignments according to standards and requirements.

Work rotating weekends and holidays as assigned by supervisor.
