At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

Join the pioneering Country Expansion team at Coinbase and help shape the future of cryptocurrency adoption in AMER.

As the Staff Software Engineer for a group of engineers located in Canada and Brazil you will work closely with the Country Directors, Product managers, UX Designer, Customer Support, and cross-functional teams to tailor the Coinbase app for customers in the region.

You will have the opportunity to truly understand our customers and elevate their experience by customizing every aspect of Coinbase based on regional needs and preferences. Through deep insights into the Canadian and LATAM cryptocurrency landscape, you will play a key role in shaping Coinbase's strategy in these countries.

With your technical expertise and passion for building quality products that customers love, you will build, drive and grow teams to create innovative features that delight customers and fuel further adoption in AMER. This is an exciting opportunity to lead Coinbase's efforts and establish it as the most trusted and easy to use cryptocurrency platform internationally.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and grow a team of 7-8 engineers to deliver features specific to the AMER markets.
  • Managed individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical expertise.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards
  • Deep dive into Coinbase system to provide solution on launching
  • Define and execute on a roadmap from opportunities raised by your team and stakeholders.
  • Use Coinbase and competitors apps to identify gaps in the current experience for your market.
  • Work closely with Country manager, Product managers, UX designers, Customer support, and senior leadership to identify feature opportunities.
  • Raise customer experience problems/gaps and drive solutions
  • Oversee design of scalable, reliable, and reusable solutions that other teams can benefit from.
  • Show bias for action, and data-driven decisions to experiment new solutions as fast as possible.
  • Add positive energy in every meeting, and make your coworkers feel included in every interaction.

What we look for in you:

  • At least 8+ years of experience in software engineering
  • You possess a strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, creating an environment that fosters these principles.
  • An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
  • An ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Experience in creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • You have delivered full stack projects.
  • You are willing to manage engineers and eventually transition into a manager role.

 Nice to haves:

  • You are actively using or building crypto products
  • Fluency in languages for Coinbase's key markets in the Americas: Spanish, Portuguese, or French (English fluency is a must).
  • Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
