A Brief Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Psychiatric Post Graduate Trainee to join our team. In this role, you will provide advanced care for patients in the post-acute setting, collaborating with physicians and healthcare team members to plan and coordinate care that achieves optimal patient outcomes.

Position Details: The post graduate program lasts up to four months, during which you will shadow established providers and may implement individualized treatment plans. You will evaluate outcomes, modify treatment plans as needed, coordinate care for complex patients, and provide patient education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shadow established Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, or Physician Assistants.
  • Rotate through various programs to enhance skills and practice knowledge.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings to review cases.
  • Participate in monthly education courses and lectures.
  • Maintain compliance by not prescribing pharmacological agents/treatments based on clinical indicators.

Qualifications for Transition to APN/PA Title:

  • Pass National Certification in the area of specialty.
  • Obtain a current State of Illinois APN/PA license.
  • Acquire a current State of Illinois Controlled Substance license.
  • Secure a current DEA license.
  • Successfully complete the APP Psychiatric Post Graduate Trainee Program.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and interpret diagnostic tests relevant to patients’ conditions.
  • Identify expected outcomes incorporating cost-effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and continuity of care.
  • Develop strategies to meet the needs of complex patients, respecting their values and beliefs.
  • Act as a liaison between healthcare team members, patients, and families for integrated care.
  • Provide ongoing education to patients and families regarding care plans.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Participate in clinical improvement initiatives and foster evidence-based practice.
  • Engage in research/performance improvement activities.
  • Mentor nursing staff and provide informal education.

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Program.
  • Certification in area of specialty or proof of application for the National certification examination.
  • Current RN licensure in Illinois.
  • Proof of application for APN licensure in Illinois.
  • CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Illinois Controlled Substance License.
