About the Role 

As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer at LNRS Data Services, who will work alongside the development, architecture and service management teams. Through code and cloud infrastructure, you will configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize applications and their associated infrastructure to independently decompose and iteratively improve on existing solutions. You are a significant contributor to your team by sharing your knowledge of end-to-end operations, availability, reliability, and scalability of your application or platform. This role is instrumental in bridging the gap between development and operations, applying engineering principles to operational challenges to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the enhancement of system reliability and scalability, architecting robust solutions that meet the dynamic needs of the business while ensuring security and architectural excellence.
  • Collaborates with other software engineers and teams to design and implement deployment approaches using automated continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines to improve the velocity of software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborates with other software engineers and teams to design, develop, test, and implement availability, reliability, scalability, and solutions in their applications
  • Implements infrastructure, configuration, and network as code for the applications and platforms in your remit
  • Collaborates with Infrastructure, DevOps and Development teams, key stakeholders, and SRE team members to resolve complex problems
  • Understands service level indicators and utilizes service level objectives to proactively resolve issues before they impact customers
  • Supports the adoption of site reliability engineering best practices within your team


Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with cloud platforms and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings, preferably Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Has significant experience in DevOps, SRE implementation and in evolving practices and ways of working through multi-disciplinary teams, business frameworks and culture.
  • Proficient in site reliability culture and principles and familiarity with how to implement site reliability within an application or platform to improve the SDLC process
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform
  • Familiarity with container and container orchestration such as ECS, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Familiarity with addressing networking, performance and optimization issues, with a demonstrated capability in diagnosing and resolving such problems efficiently in large-scale distributed systems.
  • Linux, networking, distributed systems and storage fundamentals
  • Acting as the ‘change lead’ for DevOps, quality assurance practice implementation and project initiatives. Educating and sharing knowledge to team members to enable them to effectively contribute to backlog items related to infrastructure provisioning, monitoring and best practice.
  • Solid understanding of the processes involved in release, integration, and deployment, along with an awareness of the promotion pathways within these processes.
  • Experience in observability principles and practices, encompassing white & black box monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting systems to ensure transparency and actionable insights into system performance and health. Define and Implement SLI, SLO, and Error Budget Policy. SLO Alerting, and telemetry collection using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Cloud technologies (Private and Public Cloud)
  • Troubleshoot issues and manage incidents to resolution, including a post incident RCA and identify preventative action items, Identify and reduce Toil in the environment
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scripting languages like Python/Bash/PowerShell for automating routine tasks
  • Ability to contribute to large and collaborative teams by presenting information in a logical and timely manner with compelling language and limited supervision
  • Responsible for facilitating technical roadmaps by ensuring all non-functional designs and patterns are implemented in all projects across the board for the delivery of quality technical deliverables. Ensuring that this is aligned with core technology strategy and reduces or mitigates technical debt.
