Role purpose
The key purpose of the Technical Business Analyst role is to analyse and translate business requirements to detailed technical specifications that guide the solution development process.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Elicitation:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their needs, goals, and objectives
- Elicit and document detailed business requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of the desired outcomes
Analysis and Documentation:
- Analyse and document business processes, systems, and workflows
- Create process models, data models, and other relevant documentation to illustrate future states
Technical Solution Design:
- Work with the project team to translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Collaborate with architects and developers to design technical solutions that align with business objectives
Data Analysis:
- Conduct data analysis to understand data structures, sources, and dependencies
- Define data requirements and support data modeling efforts
Prototyping and Mockups:
- Develop prototypes or mockups to demonstrate proposed system features or changes, as required
- Gather feedback from stakeholders to refine and improve solution designs
User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Support:
- Collaborate with business users to define UAT criteria and test cases
- Assist in UAT execution, ensuring that the final solution meets business requirements
Risk Analysis:
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with technical solutions
- Work with the project team to develop risk mitigation strategies
Documentation Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure that documentation is accessible to relevant stakeholders
Communication and Collaboration:
- Facilitate communication between business and technical teams
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and other project stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of requirements
Change Management:
- Support the change management process by identifying the impact of proposed changes on existing processes and systems
- Assist in developing and implementing plans to manage the transition to new systems or processes
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization
- Provide feedback on lessons learned and contribute to the improvement of project methodologies
Training and Support:
- Collaborate with training teams to develop materials and resources for end-users
- Provide support during the implementation phase and address user queries or concerns
Alignment with Business Strategy:
- Ensure that proposed technical solutions align with the overall business and IT strategy
- Provide recommendations for technology or process improvements that support strategic goals

Business Analysis Skills:
- Requirements Gathering: Proficient in techniques for eliciting and documenting business requirements, such as interviews, surveys, workshops, and use cases

Technical Proficiency:
- Understanding of Systems Architecture: Familiarity with systems architecture and the ability to understand how different components of a system interact
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyse data requirements and design data models
- Technical Documentation: Proficient in creating detailed technical documentation, including specifications, data dictionaries, and system diagrams
Communication Skills:

- Stay Informed: Proactively stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in business analysis
Education and Certifications:
- Relevant Degree: A degree in business, information technology, or a related field
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in business analysis or related areas (e.g. CBAP - Certified Business Analysis Professional)
Interpersonal Skills:
- Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Ability to negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts that may arise during the analysis process
