Position Summary

Our department provides outpatient comprehensive evaluations and conservative treatments of neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions. The office sees a wide array of problems including congenital developmental disorders, chronic neurologic disabilities, skeletal dysplasia, disorders related to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and spine disorders.

Physiatrists are specialists in treating congenital developmental disorders and acquired injuries that impact function and development, including, but not limited to, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. We have expertise in the diagnosis and management of comprehensive care for each child as a whole.

The Nurse Coordinator will provide exceptional written and oral communication with families assisting them both in clinic and providing administrative responsibilities. Duties include assisting in the clinic and inpatient consult service, phone triage, referrals, patient education, pre-authorizations and assisting with injection-based procedures in various clinical settings including procedure center and OR.

This is a Monday through Friday in the office role in our St. Louis Children's Hospital clinics and inpatient setting.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family (biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual and environmental); collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.
  • Directs and/or provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures, and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
  • Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/family regarding disease process and symptom management.
  • Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
  • Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates cost-effective work habits by setting priorities and properly managing supplies and equipment.
  • Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcome.
  • Professional contributions, including presentations, preceptorships/mentorships, committee participation, community service, inclusion on research or professional publications or local, regional or national professional organization leadership roles.
  • Other duties as outlined in specialty-specific job responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with two years of nursing experience.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.

Salary Range

$60,800.00 - $105,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
