What Exciting About the Role:

Verifone is seeking a manager to join our incredible Platform Engineering team.  You will manage a team of database specialists responsible for day-to-day operations of our core enterprise data platforms including relational databases, NoSQL, Redis, MongoDB, both on prem and AWS cloud services. You’ll own reliability, performance, capacity planning, security and compliance for our database estate. You’ll build and enforce standards, run the on-call program, and work closely with application, data, and security teams.  This is a high-impact role requiring deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to manage complex, mission-critical database environments. 

Key Responsibilities:

Database Leadership 

  • Manage a team of DBAs / Database Engineers / Data Platform Ops (1:1s, feedback, reviews, hiring). 
  • Prioritize the team’s work across incidents, requests, maintenance, and projects
  • Run a sustainable on-call rotation with clear escalation paths.
  • Enforce good hygiene: ticket quality, documentation, change control, post-incident reviews.
  • Develop and execute database strategy aligned with engineering and business objectives.
  • Oversee database design, deployment, and maintenance across multiple environments (development, test, production). 

Performance & Optimization 

  • Focus on monitoring and database performance to meet demanding application requirements.
  • Drive automation to streamline database operations and reduce manual overhead.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery for critical systems. 

Security & Compliance 

  • Establish robust security protocols to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI-DSS, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage audits and risk assessments related to database operations.
  • Strong knowledge of database security, compliance, and performance optimization. 

Cross-functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to support application development and deployment.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on database implications of architectural and design decisions.
  • Support integration activities for new platforms, tools, and services. 

Technology & Process Improvement 

  • Leverage modern database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, cloud-native solutions) to enhance capabilities.
  • Implement best practices for backup, recovery, and monitoring.
  • Drive continuous improvement in database management processes and tools. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive database administration/management experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in relational and non-relational databases and technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka).
  • Operational management of on-prem and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)
  • Proven success in managing large-scale, mission-critical database environments.
  • Experience in technology for fintech industries preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience running Snowflake at scale (multiple warehouses, resource monitors, role structures, cost controls).
  • Experience with managed Redis and MongoDB (e.g., AWS ElastiCache, Azure Cache, MongoDB Atlas).
  • Data lake, analytics, ETL/data pipeline experience
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, operators, or similar for database-adjacent services.
  • Experience in a high-availability or regulated industry (fintech, payments, healthcare, etc.).
  • Practical experience with Terraform/Ansible/other IaC for DB and data platform resources.
  • DevOps skills (CI/CD pipelines, scripting)
