What is the opportunity?

The RBCx Strategy and Investments Team is looking to hire the Director of Capital Investments to lead RBCx’s capital deployment strategy across venture fund commitments and direct equity investing. We are seeking an experienced institutional investor with deep expertise in venture capital and private markets. The ideal candidate brings a strong track record in fund investing and direct equity deployment, combined with disciplined portfolio construction and rigorous due diligence capabilities.

This individual is both strategic and execution-oriented — able to allocate capital thoughtfully across cycles while maintaining high standards of governance and performance oversight. They possess strong relationships across the Canadian venture ecosystem and credibility with leading GPs, founders, and institutional investors. As a visible ambassador for RBCx, they bring market insight, intellectual leadership, and the ability to enhance brand and ecosystem positioning.

Above all, we are looking for a capital allocator with sound judgment, long-term perspective, and the ability to translate market intelligence into differentiated investment strategy and product innovation.
 

What will you do?

Capital Deployment & Portfolio Strategy

• Lead the deployment of capital across venture fund commitments and direct/co-investment opportunities.
• Design portfolio construction frameworks that optimize risk-adjusted returns, diversification, and vintage pacing.
• Deliver strategic investment recommendations to senior leadership and investment committees.

Fund-of-Funds Investing

• Source, evaluate, and execute commitments to leading and emerging venture capital managers across Canada.
• Conduct comprehensive GP due diligence, including assessment of team, strategy, track record, and governance.
• Build long-term partnerships with high-quality managers and position RBCx as a sophisticated, value-added institutional LP.

Direct Investing

• Lead sourcing, due diligence, and execution of direct equity and co-investment opportunities alongside top-tier venture managers.
• Ensure direct investments are strategically aligned with broader portfolio objectives.
• Maintain governance discipline and active portfolio oversight.
• Oversee rigorous due diligence, investment execution, and portfolio monitoring.
   

Market Development and Thought Leadership

• Serve as a senior ambassador for RBCx across the Canadian and global venture capital ecosystem.
• Build and deepen trusted relationships with GPs, founders, institutional investors, and ecosystem partners nationwide.
• Represent RBCx at premier industry conferences, forums, and private market gatherings to enhance visibility, credibility, and sourcing advantage.
• Strengthen RBCx’s brand as a long-term, strategic capital partner through consistent market engagement and informed market perspective.

Product Development & Capital Innovation

• Working with internal RBC and RBCx stakeholders, as well as VC partners, on establishing new products and capital strategies that are designed to support Canada’s venture capital ecosystem

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

• 7-10+ years in venture capital, private equity, fund investing or institutional asset management
• Demonstrated experience deploying capital and making investment decisions
• Track record of leading due diligence processes
• Strong financial analysis valuation and risk assessment capabilities

Nice to have:

• Established relationships with top tier GP, founders, LPs across North America
• Recognized presence within the venture or private capital ecosystem
• Deep domain knowl4dge in high-growth sectors (e.g., fintech, enterprise software)
• MBA, CFA, CPA or other finance qualifications
