Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.
Mach Industries is seeking a Lead Test Engineer to design and implement state-of-the-art testing solutions for our next-generation autonomous vehicles. This role involves developing automated test systems to produce flight hardware quickly and reliably. You will lead the entire testing lifecycle, from defining test requirements to executing tests, analyzing data, and contributing to the product development process. In collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, you will help refine designs, eliminate anomalies, and enhance overall system reliability.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, fluid dynamics, automation, and control systems, as well as be skilled in test data interpretation and analysis. Given the hands-on nature of the role, proficiency in safely operating high-energy, hazardous testing environments is essential to ensure the well-being of all team members.
Develop automated test systems for design characterization and validation.
Lead the end-to-end technical testing process, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
Provide real-time support for technicians during test operations.
Conduct real-time and post-test data reviews to evaluate the performance of test articles and systems (fluid, structural, thermal, electrical).
Document test results and recommend areas for upgrades or improvements.
Create detailed test cases and operating procedures for test systems.
Identify and mitigate system pitfalls and potential hazards, collaborating with design engineers to improve flight hardware and processes.
Serve as the safety authority, ensuring all operations are conducted in a secure and compliant manner.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering or other related fields.
5+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical, structural, propulsion, fluid systems, flight hardware, or test operations.
Proven ability to thrive in ambiguous environments with aggressive timelines
High levels of autonomy, self-motivation, and problem-solving ability.
Knowledge of hazardous systems (high pressure, cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric).
Strong familiarity with instrumentation and control systems (e.g., PLCs, high-speed data acquisition, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves).
Proficiency in data analytics using code-based tools (Python, R, MATLAB, NI LabVIEW).
Demonstrated experience in root cause and failure analysis.
Experience writing and optimizing high risk technical procedures and work instructions.
Ability to interpret technical documentation, including manuals, data reports, schematics, and design specifications
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
Work in environments with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.
Occasional work in extreme outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Flexible work hours depending on operational needs.
Some travel required to future test sites.
